Discussion for article #232922
Facts, fiction. Fungible.
Fox: Fair-haired lies and balanced turtles all the way up!
ABC: RU kidding? Erick Erickson is UNDER CONTRACT - and George Fkg Will was for frickin’ DECADES!
CBS: WhI- where’s my teef? … what time ishit? fff
NBC: We distort - feel free to leave the contriving to us!
Brian Williams should be prosecuted under the Stolen Valor Act. Who does he think he is Chris Kyle?
I am surprised he didn’t blame his “mis-remembering” on the “fog of war” instead of the “fog of memory.”
Edit:
While your comment seems sincere on face, I recognize the snark quite clearly. Nice try.
People are so interesting sometimes. Here you have Brian Williams, news anchorman; famous guy; millionaire. Many would probably love to do what he does for a living and live the life he is living. He actually did go report from Iraq during combat operations, interact with troops, fly on helicopters, etc… that alone is all pretty interesting stuff. Yet he apparently still feels some deficit or insecurity inside that drove him to make up stories so that he would appear braver and tougher than he actually is. It is amazing. Some people can just never have enough to feel ok with themselves as they are.
And I think you actually have to wear medals that you didn’t rightfully earn in an effort to falsely portray yourself as a war hero.
“As war correspondents go, I am the Herb Schmendrick of war correspondents. I’m not terribly good at it and it is not what I do full time,”
Yeah, we pretty much came to that conclusion YEARS ago. Although you were pretty good during Katrina.
My snark is more subtle than yours.
Edit to add: I just hooked the GoET.
Dan Rather was fired from CBS for believing something that turned out not to be true. He never really lied. Brian Williams lied for years and still has his job. I think something is wrong with this picture.
The wingers are out for Williams’ scalp because he’s the face of liberal NBC News.
Your kung fu is strong.
Or claim service for monetary gain.
Maybe it’s because I see this as more of a fish story.
Hey!
During WWII a band of reporters led by the legendary Edward R. Murrow did actually report from Great Britain with bombs falling on them and in blackouts where they couldn’t see what was in front of them, and maybe some of them wrote about it later in memoirs, but they sure didn’t go on national media such as it was at the time to tell amusing stories to a captive audience.
I remember during the 2008 primary when Hillary did the same thing. People who seek celebrity and power never seem to be able to get enough of it.
MartinHeldt who is a moderator here in an earlier career as an investigative journalist obtained the military records of GWB. Why wasn’t he invited to Letterman at some point or anywhere on CBS.
There are many reporters who have done similar things in recent times in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, etc. They are not generally the face of the news and they don’t usually insert themselves into the stories they report - despite the fact that they were there. I suspect that these real reporters who put their lives on the line to report real news make folks like Brian Williams feel insecure as journalists. Thus he feels the need to go out and brag to the public about some crazy dangerous situation he was in that never really happened so that he can (falsely) up his true journalist credibility.
Rich Krell, the pilot of the bird in which Williams was being transported, verified some of the content of William’s recollections and stated that Williams was partially in error as to specifics. As war stories go, the Williams tale doesn’t seem to have more than the usual amount of BS that the guy on the adjacent stool at the VFW usually dishes out.
