That DD has appeared on Fox is the harbinger of the death of democracy.
and the surge of a TeaOcracy where white men wear white robes and pointy hats and women wear black burqas…

“I’m not a white supremacist at all, in fact the European-American Unity and Rights Organization (EURO) was a charted civil rights organization,” Duke said, adding that he fought the “racial discrimination” of affirmative action while serving in Louisiana’s state legislature.
So is he giving national exposure to this has been to ensure that Fox viewers think that Duke’s worldview is perfectly valid and legitimate? Even if he said a few things against Duke O’Reilly is promoting this guy, pure and simple.
Yeah, and black people. gays, Jews, and other groups don’t get a ‘fair shake’ from David Duke and his ilk, Bill, so spare us the bile of Duke not getting a ‘fair shake’. Why don’t you buy him a milk shake (the only kind he’d want) and see if he thinks it’s a ‘fair shake’.
Holy goddamn! This really is just pushing the envelope now to see how far they can take it and get away with it and/or to see what could be a new comfortable norm. The only place the former Grand Wizard of the KKK should be appearing is on Springer or some other trashy daytime TV show, where the very real likelihood of somebody throwing a chair at his face may occur. I’m not buying Bill’s “The problem with this garbage…” token line. He just forgot to wink. He knows what he’s doing, and he knows who his audience is.
I thought he was saying Mandela’s movement to end apartheid and the KKK were equal extremes on the political spectrum. Leading a movement to get one-person-one-vote and wearing sheets to murder and commit arson are the exact same thing.
But to your point, yes, he’s also saying reciting names in a restaurant and killing citizens of a certain race without reprisal are the exact same thing.
And yet, the GOP/Teatrolls and their ilk live in a world of doublethink:
“The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them… To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just as long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies – all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth” -1984
What it really is, is a mental disorder…a complete and utter breakdown of the “psychologically uncomfortable” feelings of dealing with cognitive dissonance. The indoctrination is so deep and the dogmatic zealotry so overwhelming that the mind’s defenses and natural reactions to that cognitive dissonance are entirely non-existent. I frequently go for the explanation that what is really going on is something akin to delusion. You get all the same responses when attacking the doublethink beliefs with contradictory facts, pointing out they are mutually exclusive, etc. You even get a lot of backfire effect: their delusional/counter-factual beliefs just becoming more entrenched. Projection, confabulation, the whole gamut of defense mechanisms gets triggered and watching the GOP/Teatrolls, their base and places like Faux News, Breitbart, WND, Red State and Daily Caller is like a study in the whole process of a mental disorder.
That is exactly what he’s doing, and probably the larger point of having Duke on in the first place. This also gives Bill a cudgel to use against any accusation of racism directed his way in the future – “I disagreed with David Duke on this program, so I can’t be racist!”
Normally I don’t give a rip what Bill-O says, I guess I still don’t, but I love watching that old fool squirm trying to buddy up with this hateful person.
What Scalise did back in 2002 is that we went to these racist groups and said, “Look at all of this money going to black people, if you elect me I’ll make it stops.”
Whether Scalise is a racist or not is irrelevant he, at the very least, trolled racists to garner their support, which he apparently received. The GOP has been pandering to these racists since the late 60s and the so-called “southern strategy.” They want those votes, they just don’t want anyone to notice that they want them.
It appears O’Reilly is willing to defend David Duke. OK, then. Not only is Billo arrogant, pompous and rude, he also is supportive of an obvious racist and white supremacist.
God how I wish that Keith Olbermann still had a political commentary program on MSNBC. This episode would’ve lit a fire under Keith for sure.
My wife in her wisdom has banned me from watching Billo. It’s a two pronged effore. One, to save our TV from heavy objects and two, regulating my blood pressure. I cannot countenance Billo. Rude, loud and arrogant are not characteristics conducive to civility.
