I think Cooper has shown he’s tough and can take the heat, though I agree he allowed himself to go down the rabbit hole with this guy instead of focusing on the real issue- Trump’s bigotry. Nobody cares about Dean’s bigotry.

This is a woman who in a previous life came behind the elephant in a parade and shoveled up its manure. She’s had a lot of practice in cleaning up somebody’s else’s shit, and I marveled that O’Donnell remained as calm as she did. She talked and talked and talked and said nothing.

I had exactly the same reaction. Although he was correct in his assertions about the Muslim world, Cooper made it more about his own international creds. He should have called out the campaign rep about Trump agreeing with the audience member’s assertion that the President wasn’t even an American.

I don’t think Anderson Cooper fared at all well in this exchange. I haven’t seen what Gergen said to follow the Trump supporter’s contentions, but this guy holds up far too well. Cooper looks like your typical journalist dick trying to belittle a little doofus who has the temerity to stick to his guns. CNN should be taken off the air.
They’ve enabled this dangerous demagoguery by bringing Republican elected officials and pundits on their programs and allowing them to get away with this crap for years.

Granted it was a long time ago, but I am a Jewish American, and back in the summer of 1971 I spent about a month hitchhiking and riding buses across Muslim countries in North Africa. It wasn’t a plan, but in Athens I bumped into a couple of people whom I’'d met earlier during my travels around Europe. They were heading to Morocco, and asked me to join them on a tramp steamer across the Mediterranean. First stop was Tripoli, Libya. Kadaffi had been in power for two years. In the cafe where we had lunch, Libyan university students greeted us with great excitement. They wanted to know all about America. One wanted to know if we had ever seen James Brown perform. Another asked us if we liked Richard Widmark. The next day we landed in Tunis and began our trek across Algeria. One wonderful memory – the family that picked us up in their pickup truck, insisted that they pay for our meals, and suggested we stay at their home instead of paying for a cheap hotel. They knew we were Americans. They knew I was Jewish. At one point, when we were travelling down a rather deserted road where I felt the farthest from America and Western Culture that I had ever been, and they pulled over at place to get a bite. I walked into this cafe in middle of nowhere, and there - above the counter - was a big photo of Muhammad Ali, flanked by two Coca-Cola signs. Yes, it was a long time ago.

This is the conservative pattern on any teevee or ‘debate’ appearance…has been since the days of Newt Gingrich. They talk over you, and if you’re polite and let them have their say they will babble on and run out the clock until it’s time for a commercial break. The whole point is to prevent the other side from being heard.
Never fails - it’s what they always do.
This is an explicit strategery for them, and very few ‘journalists’ have come up with a way to fight it.
