Just think what they would have done if a Dem had won the electionâŚ
OK, these are bad, but are they as hideous as what the outgoing WI gov did last year?

If they took âfood moneyâ, did they pay income taxes on it?
Hello IRS?
Instead of going after Capone, time to go after Sheriffs. Or ex-Sheriffs, in this case.
how Alabama sheriffs are overseen and the vast county-by-county disparities
shouldnât that read âshire-by-shireâ?
âVengeance is mineâ sayeth the defeated
OK Iâll bite: what did Walker do? (I donât mean the legislative stuff, trying to take all of Eversâ âdiscretionary powersâ away.)
I meant that. I think thatâs more damaging.
In Alabama, sheriffs are the law beyond city limits, ruling over small towns, unincorporated farmlands and suburbs. Unlike police chiefs appointed by mayors and beholden to city councils, sheriffs answer to no one but the voters who elect themâŚEvery day, the stateâs 67 sheriffs make decisions about what laws to enforce, what their deputies should focus on and who they should arrest.
This is the reason I WILL NOT visit any of the states in the deep south. Too dangerous.
I expect the white house to receive a similar treatment when Trump exits.
WHAT DID WALKER DO? I donât know what Walker did to Evers.
Sorry, I thought you knew since you mentioned the âlegislative stuffâ.
Hereâs a link:
Sheriffâs are elected officials and being political brings political corruption. In rural areas of America especially in the South and West, Sheriffâs, , who are county officials, their departments and personnel, are very powerful and sometimes very corrupt. Sometimes the only law enforcement present at all except in larger towns except for the occasional State Police. In more populated regions Sheriffs departments are dwarfed by city police departments, serving mostly only unincorporated areas. Where between the lack of opportunity for corruption and the presence of other police agencies looking over their shoulders makes corruption far less likely.
The corruption of Sheriffâs departments in rural counties can be compounded or combined with corruption of the courts.
Remember the Walking Tall movies? An extreme and somewhat exaggerated I am sure story of a corrupt County Sheriff.
If you ever travel in rural America just be aware that it makes a big difference if because of say a traffic violation or accident if you are dealing with State Police, city police or county sheriffs. Be particularly wary of the last two especially Sheriffâs departments. I sometimes travel in rural areas and I make note of places where campaign signs for Sheriffs abound. When a name is plastered all over an area I donât like it.
Clearly, thereâs a lot of vindictive malfeasance here and having standardized equipment is desirable for a lot of reasons, but:
I didnât realize rural Alabama was that dangerous. I guess thatâs another reason to stay on the opposite side of the country.
What an odd comment. Its not a competition. Conservatives do a lot of horrible things big and small, some worse than others, but all still horrible.
Wasted Funds, Destroyed Property: How Sheriffs Undermined Their Successors After Losing Reelection
Gosh! Corruption among Alabama Sheriffs??? Jeepers!
There is a lot of rot in Southern culture. Yes it does go on other places, but there is something special about the corruption that grew out of slavery.
Thank you. I knew about that, I thought you were referring to the actual THEFT and MALFEASANCE that this article is referring to.
Horrible people. I do not get why what they did is not illegal.
And the guy with not one but TWO houses now, that guy should be in the pokey. WITH as many of his formerly-starved prisoner as possible.
And because the former sheriffs are white men, the new sheriff canât simply arrest them, hold them without bail indefinitely and beat the crap out of them.
