Just change the freakin’ name already.

I couldn’t agree more. I’m really not seeing the downside to picking a new name.

I think we need to hand the team a shovel so they can dig that hole deeper…obviously it’s not deep enough yet.

I see the owner has edited the Wikipedia article…hmmm

I wonder if the call went this way:

“Hi, you’re a redskin, right?”

–click–

“Hellooo?”

Pale-face must be looking a bit paler these days…

they’ve really jumped the squaw on this one.

“Nickname”? What’s their proper name then?

I recall an America-Indian guy from a few years back publicly suggesting that the team be renamed the Washington Ni**ers as a test of whether offending a different marginalized group might be an OK alternative to Redskins. It has yet to happen.

Back in the bad old days, the U.S. government got land in Ohio, Indiana and points west by bribing whatever Indian was willing to sign lopsided treaties and then claiming the treaties were legitimate. Other Indians, notably Tecumseh, sneeringly referred to the Indian signatories as “government chiefs.” Good on this guy for refusing this lame attempt to make him a such a sellout.
Maybe the Redskins ownership should actually learn something about Indians before it tries to claim everything’s cool with them.

Ugh. I was just about to post Like asking Jesse Jackson if he’d endorse a team called the “Little Black Sambos.”

Both smart and classy.

In typical fashion, Snyder or one of his minions approached the editing of the Wikipedia page in a ham-fisted manner. I don’t have a Wikipedia account, but this blatant distortion will be reported and removed within hours. Check it out as it currently reads:

Only Senators from huge Democratic states joined this campaign and in the article, Sen. Maria Cantwell states every Native American tribe wants to change the name, despite polls stating almost the exact opposite. The lawyer behind this movement has decided to send letters and use social media to force players to support the name change.[29] The leader of this movement is Ray Halbritter, leader of the Oneida Tribe, who has been constantly described as “an opportunist who has amassed a fortune at the expense of others”.[30]

Snyder is such a douche.

It’s a term of honor and respect.*

I don’t see a downside either, but there is a fair chance I will when the name is reviled.
