Discussion: Washington Navy Yard On Lockdown After Reports Of Active Shooter

Discussion for article #238094

Hate to say it but the overwhelming police presence overloads one section of town with all of law enforcement and exposes the rest of town to a sleight-of-hand maneuver. If anything else happens, the cops are gridlocked into a wedge bordered by water, bridges, and small streets.

maybe you mean today? which is Thursday? (even though it feels a little Friday-ish…)

Apparently police have already responded to the White House and closed the park across the street and I’m sure cops at the Capitol and the congressional offices are aware of what is going on.

change day to THURSDAY

I remember in 2013 that people were killed at that same yard by a lone gunman. The ‘well armed’ beat goes on. “Deja vu all over again.” I hope not.

CNN is saying that no shooter has been found as of yet while at the same time Fox is showing on the screen “ACTIVE SHOOTER CONFIRMED!!” and the news reader at Fox says “Wait, what? Navy spokesman says there.s been no shooter found?? WHAT???” …The screen then quickly changed to “reports of shooter in DC Navy Yard”.

Now Fox is quoting ABC news as a source. ABC said (Fox says) all this started from a phone call. CNN said an hour ago the same thing. Fox keeps referencing some blood bath or other. I remember the previous incident at the Navy Yard but Fox’ s reporting is garbled at best.

Confusion abounds.

Easy to say when it’s not your office where 13 people died two years ago.

And PS, the people who were still at WTC on 9/11 who had been there for the 1993 bombing survived at a higher rate overall. Because they took the threat seriously.

Better a false alarm than another tragedy.

You and MrComments can go over to redstate to hash this out. It would be more sensible to stay with the subject of the thread than to try to hijack it. Threadjacking is rude.
