“Fear, intimidation and vandalism are not a legitimate form of political expression. Those who employ it must be called to account.”
But if it gets your candidate elected, that’s just peachy.

The “will of the people” is that Hillary Clinton be our president.
How can this election be legitimate when the NSA and the CIA are both saying that Russia intervened in it?
How?
Would this law apply to Goldman Sachs? Corporations are people after all.
No, because blocking traffic is the TRUE economic terrorism.
You know, all this protesting just plays right into Trump’s Fascist little hands.
It solidifies in the minds of the people who grudgingly voted for him that “He was right” and “all those damn-lazy minorities only care about themselves, and illegal aliens, and queers, and lesbians, not me and mine and us working people with jobs and responsibilities.”
(Hey, I’m just the messenger here. I don’t agree with them, I’m just telling you what I hear from my co-workers.)
Once they finally wake up, it will be too late and Oberfuher Trump will be firmly in charge and selling off the assets of the US Government to the highest bidders.
It worked that way in Germany in 1934, it will work the same way here.
The only difference is you can substitute “Muslims” for “Jews”.
I understand what you are saying but why does anyone give a shit about the attitude of his supporters? We already know this. They aren’t going to change.
And I can see where protests would play into his whole scenario if he is looking to establish a police state but I don’t think this is the time to go home, hide and be silent. On the contrary.
I told my husband this morning that I’m coping much better but I find it disturbing to imagine going back to normal as if nothing was really going on. I am not going to do that or get complacent about any of this because WE CAN’T.
Moron. Thank goodness we still have the governor and a majority in the Senate. He’s from a district with fewer people per square mile than most of Montana.
Not if we keep it orderly and lawful, and back the portests up with nonstop organizing.
In our nation’s history, we have seen that protests were undermined by reactionary and authoritarian forces. The early labor pickets were often infiltrated by agitators. The FBI infiltrated the anti-war and civil rights movements, and sometimes their provocateurs incited violence in order to portray protesters as violent lawless types.
Today, we need an MLK, and not Occupy wannabees.
People protested like mad in Germany in 1930’s too.
They had running gun-battles in the streets between various factions and political parties, and it led directly to the Nazi’s being ELECTED into power (on the “Law and Order” ticket. Sound familiar?)
I am not saying “don’t protest, be quiet, hide your heads” on the contrary, what I am saying is we DESPERATELY need to EXPAND our protests to INCLUDE the problems of the Working Class and not just the minorities. Otherwise we lose them to the siren-song and easy-answers of scapegoating and of Fascism.
Here comes Hitler and Mossolini. Just a matter of time. We are fucked.
Well good luck with the working class since they elected him.
I’m sure there smarter ways to do things but that isn’t what is happening - this is a reaction. If you think it can controlled from this side have at it.
It’s still America until January the 20th by god. Use the 1st amendment while you still have it.
If making up a hokey meaningless phrase could negate a person’s constitutional rights, Frank Luntz would be head of the Re-defining Law Office. In the past did Paul Ryan’s attempts to redefine the word rape change anything? No.
Have fun with all the inaugural weekend protesters, Trump. It’ll be the perfect start to the worst President in American history’s term.
And his offices.
And somewhere, George W. Bush issues a huge sigh of relief.
GOPers are expert practitioners of economic terrorism. More projection from the fascist right.
Feature, not a bug haha
Legally speaking, I don’t think he’s using it in a way that would trigger the Orwell Act. However, he is certainly using it to draw that connection in peoples’ minds and to be a ridiculous douche-a-gogue.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. [emphasis added]
Does this ignoramus have even a fleeting acquaintance with this, the FIRST Amendment to the Constitution? I shudder to think what the answer might be.
“I respect the right to protest, but when it endangers people’s lives and property, it goes too far,” Ericksen said. “Fear, intimidation and vandalism are not a legitimate form of political expression. Those who employ it must be called to account.”
“Unless, you dress up as Indians first and destroy tea. Then we will honor your acts of vandalism in the history books and cos-play as you to protest an uppity-black man getting elected president,” he continued.
