Senator Warren is, of course, right. Cruz’s sacrifices are by choice and temporary; they don’t compare to the real sacrifices and hardships of many, many people in this country.
There’s another reason to be put off by Cruz’s whining. Cruz is running for President and making these “sacrifices” purely out of personal ambition. There was no groundswell demand that Cruz run, no one was clamoring for him to do this, there isn’t any sense (except perhaps in his own mind) that only Ted Cruz can save the country from whatever. Even if you accept Cruz’s ideology, there are others who could have replaced him, and might even have had a better chance of winning the general election. No, he’s doing all of this to satisfy his ambition. There’s nothing wrong with that–most candidates are highly ambitious–but Cruz’s insincerity is laughable.

Sen. Warren is spot on. However, I find Cruz’ whining even more disturbing on another level. Being the President of the United States is, let’s be frank, the hardest job in the world. You never get to see your family as often as you like. You are constantly being criticized. The job is 24/7. Not getting enough sleep. Really? What time is it over in Syria while your tucked in bed, Ted? Whining about how the application process is hard is hardly a way to impress your future employer. I can’t think of an example in any other field in which the applicant is successful after complaining about how hard it is to apply for the job. You think it is hard now, Senator? Just you wait, pal. Imagine all the invective you’ve been lobbing at President Obama being thrown your way non-stop. Pull up your big girl panties and grow up.
You know who doesn’t whine about how hard it is? (And it is really, really hard to campaign. It frankly sucks) The one candidate who is the grown woman. Just saying.

That’s my Senator, and I’m so proud. She kicked Scott Brownie out of Teddy’s seat all the way to New Hampshire. And then crossed the border and helped Jean Shaheen kick him again. Personally I think her talents would be wasted in a Presidency. May she stay in place as long as possible to keep doing what she’s doing.

That’s actually a really good idea, since TurboTax is currently only free to those with an income under $31,000. In fact I was shocked the first time I e-filed that it wasn’t free online web forms provided directlty by the IRS, but one of those lame private marketing opportunities dressed up as a government partnership (sorta like the ACA but that’s another story).
Anyway there is still a “free tax filing system,” and that’s traditional paper forms or fillable PDFs! You have to do the calculations yourself, but that’s how Bernie’s wife Jane does it, I suppose?
