Discussion: Warren Demands DHS Watchdog Probe White House Role In Vetting Mar-A-Lago Guest List

That’s funny Elizabeth
This is the guy that had a security level meeting in his garden party with all the waiters, guests and foreign dignitaries looking on.
Who knows what the fuck has been compromised over the last 2 1/2 years
Horse left barn .

Warren is doing a good thing here, and I credit her for that. All the same, I wouldn’t want to see her campaign turn into a Trump attack unit, so I hope this isn’t a sign. A soupçon of vitriolics, okay. But Warren will do best if she sticks to the issues that bread and butter voters look to her to champion.

Trust us, Mr. President. This is all for your safety and protection. It would be a sad shame if something bad were to happen to you while you were trying to relax in your posh resort. We just want you to know who your friends are, and who can and can’t be trusted. You are the President, after all. We have to be extra careful with your protections from the malicious intents of foreign countries.

Jeez…I don’t understand why it’s taken this long. Two years ago, ProPublica tested trump cybersecurity.

We parked a 17-foot motor boat in a lagoon about 800 feet from the back lawn of The Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach and pointed a 2-foot wireless antenna that resembled a potato gun toward the club. Within a minute, we spotted three weakly encrypted Wi-Fi networks. We could have hacked them in less than five minutes, but we refrained.

It was two years ago…so HOPEFULLY the SS has stepped things up.

The Socialist Warren is trying to stop the President from making a buck. Damn Socialist. How can the Trump family make money if they can’t give their guests and their guests friends all the access they want to the Mar-A-Lago computer system and especially to Mar-A-Lago’s biggest draw, President Trump. Pocahontas is using her crafty Native American ways to thwart the economy. Indians always have been Socialists. /snark/

Ah, if a probe could show America just how much filthy lucre is involved, maybe it could matter. But so far, his grifting has been pretty well exposed for anyone who wants to see and nobody much seems to care. Not even about the inauguration money grabs.

Or maybe it’s all just quietly sinking in and people will quietly vote on it. I dearly hope so.

While they’re at it, I would suggest they get the NSA in to investigate all the computer systems in the place. Chances are good that Zhang wasn’t the first to waltz in with cyber intercept/malware goodies. They might want to have a look for other bugs and possibly video surveillance while they’re at it.

The issue here is not whether or not proper vetting occurred, but rather that Mar-A-Lago is a resort, not a secure location. I genuinely feel bad for USSS for having to deal with a President that willfully ignores all security protocols and forces the USSS to deal with what must be a security nightmare. Can’t wait for the news report of Trump’s unsecured smart phone getting hacked - if it hasn’t been already.

ETA: A security nightmare that’s completely unnecessary and all in the service of Trump personally enriching himself and his family.

As of Dec 2018 no.

We are now using Mar a Lago’s WiFi. It’s totally unsecured. pic.twitter.com/Eo8XTNFSPW

Fine, but is Warren really in a position to make such a “demand”? I agree with the sentiment expressed above, that Warren and the other candidates need to not come off as opportunistic or vitriolic. Are there others who can actually investigate this stuff, such as the House, making demands that they can actually back up with subpoena power or otherwise?

The more Democrats draw attention to the security lapses in this administration, the better.

Not that I want to let him off the hook, but this looks like the public facing wifi access that most hotels offer customers, etc. I would be more concerned if they had accesses the business-side server.

But does Shroomy know how to keep his phone off WiFi? I doubt he had the sense to have someone rig it so he can’t accidentally turn it on in the wrong place.

Turning up the heat. Every day.

I hope this is sarcasm.

Yes!

I don’t know what anyone else thinks but given Trump uses unsecured Android wouldn’t be surprised if when he’s there the unsecured Android is unconnected to the MAL guest WiFi. :eyes:
