Seems that, now that the initial shock has worn off, Democrats are preparing to fight back.
Fine, whatever if it prevents people on the left from being idiots and not voting then go for it.
Thatās a good start.
I like Ellison, but then again the Dem party is not trying to attract a middle age white man like myself. Oh, but wait . . . .
Doubling down on the symbolism (multiculturalism) that got white voters enflamed for Trump, I dunno. I would feel really bad for Ellison being used this way. Would he have to give up his seat to do it?
Agreed, and itās just fucking stupid when you have Howard Dean, a proven and highly successful DNC chair, announcing heās throwing his hat in the ring. Ellison is great, like him a lot, but if weāre trying to win then letās go with the guy who knows how to win big because heās done it before.
Howard Dean says it is a full time job and needs a full time person
I think he is right
Ellison wonāt be the electoral poster boy but the face of the party to its own members. Young progressives will like it, because he has Bernie credibility, and older progressives will like it for its symbolic inclusiveness and for the unity he will bring to the base. I like this move, always assuming that Ellison is a competent administrator.
Iād rather have Howard Dean just because heās not doing anything right now, and Ellison needs to focus on the House.
Oh, I love Dean. Iād be good with that choice too
FWIW, over at DK, which is my litmus test for progressive psychology, Howard Dean is roundly derided as an old-school hack who committed the cardinal sin of supporting Clinton early on. Heās dead to them.
I donāt know all that much about Ellison, but unless heās got proven organizational abilities on top of strategic communications chops in combination with a plan for getting that portion of the Democratic ābaseā that refuses to vote more than once every four years (if even that) to actually get to the polls, he wonāt be any more successful than Kaine or DWS.
I think heās a great choice. Heās young, well-liked, and fair.
Howard Dean, as much as I like him, is dated. The party canāt keep recycling its greatest hits. Time for some new material.
Those voters were gonna be for him even if ET had came back with Reeces Pieces allotments for everyone.
The issue that faces either candidate is the following: according to MSNBC, Trump won with barely 30% of the vote.
Both were tied, but he took the majority of the indy vote and left the rest to the other three candidates.
Now itās 50/40 that Bernie could have gotten that 46% lot to get up off their ābarrelsā and into voting booths; but what i do know is that the Sanders wing has the Democratic Partyās ear now.
He wonāt have to give up his seat. DWS was in Congress throughout her tenure at the DNC.
Iād like your post twice if I could - first for your recognition that the party must change to survive; and second, I love me some Louis Armstrong.
I think the hope is that Ellison will be able to move the base in midtermsāyoung people in particular.
Your take on Dean is exactly the same as mine: heās terrific and meritorious, but he does not represent a leap into the future. It would be an unbelievable blunder to appoint him, since heād spend most of his time trying to win over chunks of his own party. That would indeed be a full-time job.
Dean and Ellison are a win win for us. The scales should be tipped for a full time chair.
Attorney General Rudy Giuliani will have to shut this down. You know, Muslim. Black. Probably a BLM-ISIS conspiracy just waiting to happen. Neighbors have seen bombs scattered all over his living room floor.
The only thing the party needs to change is itās attitude. Stop being the adults in the roomā¦it doesnāt work. Confrontation works. Bipartisanship DOES NOT WORK. Obama tried the kumbaya route, named several Repubs to his cabintet and it got him bupkes.
Time for the Democratic Party sweater wearing old geezers to move to the back of the room in a supporting role and let the more confrontational fire breathers of the new generation take over. The fire and confrontational spirit we saw from Bernie supporters is exactly what we need. If youāre not pissing people offā¦you are doing it wrong. This is war.
