Discussion: Warner: Nunes Memo 'Demonstrates An Astonishing Disregard For The Truth'

He also charged that the release of the memo will make it harder for the Senate committee to continue with its Russia investigation.

Another feature of the release… this is just way too transparent

I generally decry the steadily-accelerating loss of decorum or adult behavior in Washington, but in this case I think I’d prefer a shorter, more vulgar, more quotable statement: “It’s a load of bullshit. Nunes made it up.”.

“Astonishing disregard for the truth”, is a feature not a bug. It also describes the rethug party.

Let me get this right: The FBI issued a memo 10 days before the election about the DNC candidate careless use of e-mails and at the same time withheld information about the RNC candidate collaborating with Russia thereby swinging the election to the RNC candidate but (and this is the part that really gets me) to be a supporter of the RNC candidate and not support his impeachment for collaborating with Russia you have to believe that the FBI was actually helping the DNC.

The only question that needs to be asked to Republicans who take the above line is: are you guys really this stupid or just deplorable liars? That is what’s obviously happening is Trump and his Republican allies in Congress are waging war on independent institutions of Government with the intent to take them over and make them agents of Trump and the Republican party.

Well I hate comparisons to Nazi Germany, this is exactly what happened in the aftermath of Hitler coming to power. Hitler and his allies waged war on German institutions including intelligence and military eventually turning those institutions from agents of the state to agents of the Nazi party.

So this is a very dangerous situation and we need to just cut to the chase and say what is really going on before it is too late for America. Trump and with the support of Republicans including the leadership in both houses of Congress is frantic to fire Mueller ASAP before he indicts a member of Trump’s family because once a member of Trump’s family gets indicted it may be too late to save Trump himself. That is why news of Trump ordering Mueller fired back in June was just leaked, to give Mueller more time. That is in June the Republicans in Congress were not goose stepping to Trump’s tune as they are today making firing Mueller now better strategy then in June.

The reason is that Mueller will be indicting both Trump Jr. and Son-in-Law Kurshner for collaborating with Russians and lying about it under oath several times. The only think holding up the indictments is Mueller is trying to find state charges so Trump cannot pardon son and son-in-law and it indictments of some now may hinder Muller’s real goal, indicting Trump himself. For example Jeff Session is obviously guilty for lying under oath about his meeting with Russians but indicting Sessions would force his resignation allowing Trump to appoint someone who will be able to fire Mueller something Sessions cannot do because of his collaborating with Russians and lying about it under oath.

And that is where we are today. Trump and Republicans frantically trying to at first discredit Mueller so he can be fired and the investigation shut down because Trump is obviously guilty and before it is too late for America, we really need to say it.

Obstruction is the word you are searching for sir. OBSTRUCTION. Say it — again and again and again. Connect the dots for the idiots in this country. SPELL IT OUT:
O-B-S-T-R-U-C-T-I-ON
of justice
Keep saying it or there won’t be any justice in this country to obstruct anymore.

At what point does the cover-up become the full frontal? Cause that seems like where we’re at.

A desperate move by desperate people. Mueller must be close to lowering the boom. Will he be able to do so before a repeat of Nixon’ Saturday Night Massacre? Stay tuned.

There it is. Profiles in courage, folks, our congressional Dems… I predicted “irresponsible” but we got “reckless”… Covering up for and excusing treasonous acts. That what this is. Nothing less. JUST SAY IT ALREADY!

And the Russian government. Not sure if I’m even being hyperbolic here.

Democrats should be asking, “what would a legitimate investigation into foreign interference and election criminality look like? How would that differ than what we’re seeing here with copious helpings of incriminating evidence?” Then connect the thoughts. The Republicans and Trump administration are discrediting their investigators because they appear to be seriously implicated in these crimes. This is what the mob does when they have no other recourse. Say it, “the Republicans like Trump, Nunes and Hannity are responding like guilty mob members.” Maybe they are. Good chance they are. Worth investigating for America’s security.

What was classified in this memo? The fact that Carter Page was under surveillance?

It seemed pretty empty from a “new information” perspective.

Trump must be absolutely desperate. Nunes is a dunce who should be run out of town on a rail.

You mean, “The release of this memo by Paul Ryan and Republican House Intel Cttee…”

This action was also taken without regard to the damage it could do to our ability to protect Americans from threats around the globe.

The only American Trump is interested in protecting is himself. The complicit GOP just signaled they’re willing to burn the intelligence community and our allies to help Trump with that goal.

At this point the republicans are a Russian crime syndicate.

Mike Godwin himself has said that there are times “going Godwin” is actually warranted. I’m worried about sounding hyperbolic too, but you’re spot-on: this is precisely how authoritarians entrench their power, whether Franco, Erdogan today (Trump is sounding just like him, and following the same purge-government-of-all-but-allies playbook; Erdogan’s just a year or so ahead of him), or Hitler. We need never again wonder “how good Germans could let that happen” or whether it could happen here; we’re in the midst of it.

And that includes the difficulty the “mainstream media” is having facing what’s happening. Jay Rosen has a useful diagnosis:

And the last link in that piece is an eye-opener, with quotes from 1930s news stories that sound so familiar they literally sent a chill down my spine:

Right on Warner…now STAY ON IT and crush that little bug Nunes…Make him even to toxic to the Central Valley.

The whole point of the memo and the all the drama and commentary around it release, including the President’s statements, is to manufacture a set of “facts” that enable a “he said, she said” argument. It does not really matter what was in the actual memo, virtually no one will read it. They will however, by now, head new stories, “expert analysis”, proclamations from politicians, and analysis from their favorite pundits. Most people have established “the truth” in their head already regardless of the actual contents or the actual truth. The memo had already served its purpose.
