Discussion: WaPo: Zimmerman Not Expected To Face Civil Rights Charges

Discussion for article #228348

the investigation was still “active and ongoing.”

Until they actually decide he won’t be charged I’ll contain my anger until then.

This country, and its justice system, is completely fucked.

I’ve never quite understood how one can conduct an “active and ongoing” investigation into an event like this for two years. It seems to me that when you spend that long on it, you’re not going to get more and better information - you’re going to get progressively less information, and less-reliable information, as well. People’s recollections get hazier, and false memories start piling up.

It’s not as if an extensive examination of subpoenaed documents is going to take place, or that someone is going to magically appear with a videotape of the whole thing.

If you don’t have sufficient evidence to proceed with a prosecution after, say, three months, perhaps it’s time to move on to something else.

Well, this should bolster Zim’s cred should be be called as a character witness for Officer Wilson.

But seriously, we can’t always expect the DOJ to do what lower courts fail to do, be that finding a murderer guilty or prosecuting a killer cop.

You forgot “and the public outrage subsides.” That’s the crux of the matter I think.

Another thing… does the picture look like someone photoshopped his head to be much too large for his face?

The number of lawyers involved determines the amount of time it takes…

There was no basis for this investigation and the DOJ knew that from the very beginning. This is what happens when politics and politicians get involved.

He only murdered an unarmed teenager who was minding his own business.

Nope, no civil rights violation there.

Zimmerman got off on murdering Travon and will serve no time in jail or be made to pay civilly. It just won’t happen.
However, he will always remain in his own prison, haunted by the fact that to many he got away with killing a kid in cold blood and took the money of sleezy racists to justify it and save his cowardly skin. No matter what, he will not be able to wipe the taint off his reputation for that.

It was for politics. DOJ already determined race was not a factor. They did an extensive investigation and found out Zimmerman has spoken up publicly for a black guy who was abused by police, had black dates, had a black business partner, mentored black kids, etc. DOJ kept it alive to satisfy the media, but there is no Hate Crime to prosecute. Period.

Now the family of Trayvon Martin still has the option to file a Civil Suit, and I think they would win that since Zimmerman created the situation by following TM with a gun, etc. But also noted is that in a Civil Suit much more evidence is allowed. That would include TM’s love for MMA fighting, his friends asking him to teach them to fight (written texts), his getting nailed with women’s jewelry in his backpack along with a burglary tool, etc. Might not look to good. But I still think Zimm should be held liable in Civil court for creating the situation. All he had to do was yell out “I’m with neighborhood watch, what are you doing here?”, and there is no problem. Instead he tried to be Mr. Hero and he ended up getting his ass kicked, and then took out his gun to end the fight. Granted, when the witness said to stop, TM should have backed off instead of continuing, so it’s not a murder rap. But GZ definitely created the situation and should be held liable in Civil Court. He should never be allowed to make money on book deals, movies, etc.

There was a basis for an investigation for sure. There was a potential of race being a factor. But the investigation was done a LONG time ago, and it was determined not to be a factor. Yet it remains open for politics, yes. There will be no charges federally, correct.

That fat fuck is going to meet his end in a not-good way. Whether it’s from substance abuse, by his own gun, or at the hands of someone he confronts, karma’s a stone bitch George.
