Discussion: WaPo: Trump Inaugural Spent $8,000 Per Guest At A Lavish Diplomats Dinner

They dined on endangered species. That explains the cost.

Oh, lighten up. Everyone should get a chance to kick back  at a lavish dinner now and then. Can’t take it with you!

Yes. Who is paying for all of this?

Couldn’t expect these movers and shakers to dine on Big Macs and fries could we? What kind of celebratory dinner would that be?

The Trump inaugural committee spent $8,000 per guest at an over-the-top opening dinner thrown for the capital’s diplomatic corps,

Them was some very expensive cheedburders!

Why do Pence and mother look extremely short? Almost like munchkins.

Did they served steaks from honest republicans ? Or honest republicans are already extinct?

The guests must have been guzzling the 2005 Chateau Lafite Rothschild at $1,500 a bottle . . .

My opinion is that this money did not actually get spent on anything to do with the Dinner.

Look for the grift! And whose pocket the money ended up in.

I’m more than a little suspicious about that price tag … inflating those costs is a good money laundering move.

Let me guess, it was catered by the Trump International…

Yeah, serving fake Domaine Romanee Conti would have too obvious…

There are only a few restaurants in the world where you can spend that much per person. And I bet the food was mediocre at that dinner. But a lot of connections and deals got made.

My wife and I could live for a year on what they spent on four dinners. You could probably get a couple of double-wide’s in a red state for that.

Trump fans ADORE the lavish waste as they live in squalor and poverty. Or in trump tower.

I am a professional event planner and would be hard pressed to spend 8k per guest/600 guests without super A list national act entertainment/production. I was under the impression that trump could only attract F listers like Scott Baio and Ted Nugent and the real stars all stayed away. A skilled cater waiter in the DC metro area at inauguration time commands a higher dollar fee than those 2 illustrious talents so I really can’t see how they spent that much per person. Even rich people can only eat so much beluga and drink crystal and you eventually run out of space for florals before you get to 8k per person.

Seems to me this was the “last meal” for the diplomatic corps. Has anyone seen them since?

Every foreign diplomat knows to go right to Trump with a bag full of cash to get anything done.

You’re right, of course. But Omertà isn’t cheap these days.

It’s not clear from the article that a lot of our diplomats were invited. Just everyone else’s. So not even a last meal.
