Talk to some of them and you will find out that ALL they care about is āREVENGEā upon āThe Otherā that they blame for everything bad that has ever happened to them.
They donāt care what happens to them as long as āThose Peopleā are punished loudly and hard. If they lose everything, well, that is āGods Willā. At the same time, they have āFaithā that Trump will āsave themā because he is āsuch a good businessmanā (with a very, VERY strong subtext of āBut he is WHITE. He wonāt hurt US!ā
I am not kidding about this. Talk to them (I have) it is downright scary what they think about Trump and āThose Peopleā.
The more rural and isolated the town is, the stronger these feelings.
It is not even at the level of critical thought. It is JUST āfeelingsā about it. They ābelieveā that he will āsave themā and punish āThose Peopleā.
This is what we are up against. You cannot even have a conversation about it. They get very, VERY angry very fast if you try to bring up any facts about what the Trump Administration is doing. They shout that it is all āFAKE NEWSā like it is a mantra that will dispell the āevil Libārul spiritsā.
Scary stuff.
It shows that deep, deep down they have strong misgivings about Trump but cannot let themselves voice it out loud because to do so would result in them being ākicked out of the Tribeā that they rely upon for moral support.

Of course, you are right, and thereās a lot of precedent for doing exactly that. In one way or another, every administration does this. Generally, that person is the agencyās top legal officer, because all key decisions have to go through the GC on their way to the Secretary. In some adminstrations, that role has been fulfilled by the Deputy Secretary or the Executive Assistant to the Secretary. In any case, any cabinet member worth his salt knows exactly how to freeze out the political commissar sent over by the White House.
You really canāt blame Trump for this. There is something seriously wrong with him. His craziness has taken over. Iām sure his has a second voice in his head that keeps telling him to behave, but his is unable to.
