Discussion: WaPo: Trump Has Political Advisers At Agencies To Track Loyalty To President

Notice, not loyal to an agenda put forward by the President, loyalty to the President

That’s implied by the headline, but the article’s text says otherwise:

Behind the scenes, though, they’re on another mission: to monitor Cabinet leaders and their top staffs to make sure they carry out the president’s agenda and don’t stray too far from the White House’s talking points

His agenda sucks, so that’s small relief, but the headline misleads.

There’s no real way he could fire people for disloyalty. He’d look stupid for hiring. And then who would want the jobs? Just be creating a shrinking pool of increasing incompetency.

My point is that except for a very few issues (The Wall, for ex.) the president does not have a clear agenda - hence it is about loyalty to the president, and what ever he has recently uttered.

He hasn’t defined, aside from a desire to gut regulations, much for the Cabinet leaders and their departments, so they don’t need someone to make sure the agenda is being delivered.

However, given the reliance on RW media that is pushing the idea of a “Deep State” stocked full of people working against Trump, does give a motivation to have a person “watching” - and reporting back to the WH. Again, not about an agenda (that is ill defined), but it is about - I would venture to bet - identifying individuals who are a part of the alleged “Deep State”.

Coming next: political commissars in every military unit, right out of the Russian playbook.

The larger-than-life-size portraits in all common areas was a bit much but you know how it goes in a new administration. Weird how the eye color keeps changing though.

And then, for security purposes, of course, Neighborhood Watch will be transformed into something completely different. And there will be a Neighborhood Kommissar appointed to monitor who’s complaining.

Well, no surprise. He’s being coached.

The only thing that could make this nightmare worse is if Drumpfie decides to go shirtless on horseback.

Trump continues AM TweeTs. Fake polls and FBI should investigate Clinton because of their campaign coziness with the Russians.

But only to us and to all other sane people.

In Trumpworld, he just looks tough.

One cabinet secretary has already done so.

I don’t think they (the admin) yet understands the civil service (non appointees), or the real function of the departments. I do think they are reacting from paranoia based on the RW storyline of this evil “Deep State” that is undermining the Administration, and the “leaks”. I think they are still playing bull in the China Shop. I don’t think this bunch that can’t (yet) shoot straight can anticipate they would be creating an environment where competent people wouldn’t want to work for them.

They work for a President who can do no wrong, thus the messes and media blowups can’t be due to poor performance of the President or his team. Thus, there has to be an outside force at work … Thus for those with an authoritarian mindset the job is to identify and “get rid of” (remove from position, denigrate and remove credibility) those ‘outside forces’ which may be inside the executive branch.

on the Clinton tweet. smh. He is really dumb, isn’t he? Do you think he realizes that he projects his own faults, all the time, let alone how transparent those acts of projection really are?

I think “Sicherheitsdienst-like” is what we’re actually talking about here. This is how the SD started, as a service specifically focused on spying on, and policing the loyalty of, NSDAP members.

Though granted, it doesn’t roll as trippingly off the tongue as “Stasi” if you don’t speak Europe’s most charming tongue as a first language.

Love this!

It’s also the Trump way of installing de facto department under secretaries and such that require Senate confirmation. The administration won’t even divulge the names of all the people they’ve installed. So any so-called straight up Cabinet members will tolerate this interference? I’d imagine any one wit any self-esteem and dignity would offer the ultimatum – my people, not yours, or I go.
