Yes foreign outreach, you see, he was supposed to bring coffee from other countries.
Coffee Boy wanted to do more than remember the cream and sugar.
Someone must have misled him, though–Egypt and Russia aren’t well-known for their coffees.
If you want to stay ahead of WaPo, NYT, and WSJ, then I recommend this twitter feed from Seth Abramson. He has been doing heroic work for well over a year. https://twitter.com/SethAbramson
Yeah that thread is particularly good. @tiowally unrolled it and linked to it on the diGenova thread.
I know Mueller already knows all of that and more which tells me that surely a lot of folks are going to be headed to jail eventually.
For some reason I replaced “outreach” with “reach around.”
So, ya think some other people might have also lied to the FBI?
For the Trump group, potato potahto.
L’affaire garçon de café
Mueller is spinning a web so secure that by the time it touches Trump he won’t be able to move.
“If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer.”
This is all very interesting but not sure what it adds up too, beyond Papadopoulos having more contact within the campaign than Trump et al admit.
Here’s what I keep coming back to: Why didn’t Papadopoulos get a job in the administration?
There are hundreds of jobs for people involved in the campaign all over D.C. The Commerce Department is notorious for jobs to park campaign staff until the next election and lots of jobs at the Old Executive Office building and the unemployed Papa got Nada. Why?
As David Frum remarked (and which I often cite), “this is a scandal with many secrets but no mystery.”
No reasonable person can be at all surprised by this WAPO piece. Of course Papadopoulos was communicating left and right with all key Trump principals about whatever he learned from the Russians and others.
The big assumption/conclusion one can make is that Papadopoulos did contemporaneously tell Trump campaign officials that the Russians had hacked and stolen thousands of DNC/HRC emails. Papado learned this information in late April 2016. That means all the key players at the time: Manafort, Gates, Kushner, Trump Jr., Sessions, Clovis, Flynn, Trump Sr knew. They knew everything. Before Trump Jr met with the Russians at the Trump Tower meeting, they knew about the emails. That’s the stuff that Trump wanted out and was referring to when he made a statement later that evening (6/9/16) saying that he had a big announcement to make on the email topic. The key is that the Trump team knew what the Russians did long before the FBI knew and long before the general public knew. They said nothing and then actively pushed the Russians to either give them the info or release it so that they could play the email angle against HRC. That’s a conspiracy, folks.
Emails described to The Washington Post, which are among thousands of documents turned over to investigators examining Russia’s interference in the 2016 campaign, show Papadopoulos had more-extensive contact with key Trump campaign and presidential transition officials than has been publicly acknowledged.
WAPO states that, at minimum, Papado spoke with Bannon and Flynn, which means that during the spring of 2016 he spoke with everyone.
WAPO also reveals an interesting conversation between Papado and Panos Kammemos, a pro-Putin Greek Nationalist and Greece’s defense minister. WAPO reports that Papado discussed with Kammemos a bilateral agreement with the United States for rights to certain energy fields offshore in the Mediterranean and the Balkans. Flynn took the lead on saying that he would respond to this opportunity. Flynn expressed a lot of interest in this and similar leads provided by Papadopoulos. My hunch is that Flynn saw this particular offer from Greece as part of his larger plan to open up the middle east for building nuclear reactors. This would involve a big Russian presence and would likely require the removal of Russian sanctions to enable the US government to play its role to play a role.
What WAPO didn’t report is that Papadopoulos met Kammemos in May 2016 in Greece. He was there around the same weekend that Putin had made a visit to Greece. In short, a key Trump operative with whom Russian intelligence had been communicating, and Vladimir Putin, met the same high ranking Putin friendly Greek official in proximate or overlapping time periods.
It is not a stretch to think that Kammemos carried messages between the two.
Too talented?
Too many syllables for Trump to consistently remember his name.
I was never a fan of David Frum, but his comments and insight into Trump and today’s Republican Party has been very good. Terrifying, but good.
Most under-rated coffee-boy ever. Truly, only the best.
O yes, a big fat juicy one. There is nothing else it can be characterized as - it is a conspiracy.
If anyone hasn’t listened to Josh’s latest podcast, I highly recommend it. His guest is knowledgeable and articulate…
This week, we talk to former FBI special agent Asha Rangappa. It’s a fascinating discussion about how counter intelligence investigations operate and why Paul Manafort is a key part of the Trump-Russia story.
