Discussion: WaPo: Trump Also Dismissed Black Caucus In DACA Meeting Last Week

Or make it bipartisan and override his veto

I think you got it backwards, people with the (single point) mutation which causes sickle cell anemia, have an advantage in the area (W.Africa, Congo) ,where malaria is rampant, causing that mutation to survive in that population.

Similarly the mutation, causing cystic fibrosis (very bad, if you got two copies of that (one from Mum and one from Dad)) should confer a small benefit re. asthma (IIRC), when you only have one bad copy ( the other is ‘good’) which is why it, survives in the population.

A mutated gene with absolutely no benefits for at least some of the host organisms, would probably not survive for long in the population. ( Fascinating stuff, genomics.)

Of course they should—but they won’t, because it would require actual thought, actual compromise, and actual work.

Up until a week or so ago, Republicans were eager to believe that they could hold onto control of Congress in November.

Now, they’re fatalistic and realize that their free ride at taxpayer expense is about to end.
So they’re going to try to ram through as much of their cruel and unpopular agenda as possible before they are relegated to the minority for a generation or more.

They are determined to destroy the very structure of our democratic form of government, and they are succeeding admirably.

As is Michael Gerson. Astounding how those two conservatives have become such intensely anti trumpian voices. Sing it out and sing it loud my conservative friends. It’s your duty as well as your profession.

This is actually one thing that’s been constant throughout his life. Pretty much his only real principle.

I’m really curious what “you’ve got to be joking” is a euphemism for in this section of the WaPo piece.

Don’t forget the first time he elbowed his way onto the national scene by writing a treasonous letter to the Iranian government trying to undermine Obama’s negotiations.

And besides, while most republicans thought they’d be able to control Trump it is clear that the monster is not controllable and worse, now controls most of them.

Well, the man’s a self confessed germaphobe and his recent remarks reveal that he thinks all black people are germs. Haitians all have AIDS and black people come from shithole countries–he thinks if he is ever even in their presence he’ll get deathly ill. Bring them on!

Respectfully disagree re: Responsibility for any government shutdown. If the government shuts down for any reason, that is all on Trump/Republicans. They have control of the government.

As i have said before, at least part of why the Republicans stick with the president* is because they are complicit in the Russian meddling in the 2016 election and the Russians have some good blackmail material based on the hack of the RNC that occurred along with the hack of the DNC. The Russians never disclosed anything found in the RNC hack. I expect it was more useful to them to blackmail the Republicans. This can’t be all of it, of course, but I like it better than the theory that the entire Republican party is craven, corrupt, criminal and stupid, even though this is likely the better explanation of why they won’t do anything and not necessarily inconsistent with the other theory. Damn, these are bad days.

That “Nunes” territory list needs to be investigated, these guys seem bent on defending Putin’s puppet Trump at all costs, even at the expense of their future political careers.

What moved these guys to lie so overtly?

What, other than BIG MONEY moves those power-mongers to give up their political futures so willingly?

If anyone can fathom a force or factor other than BIG MONEY that moves them, name it, and I’ll respond, but I don’t think there is any alternative.

Its about the money, somehow, somewhere, and when that happens, there’s always a trail of cash that can be followed. Campaiogn contributions, bogus investment funds, outright payoffs? Somewhere it is there to be discovered.

Trump is always and forever only about what benefits trump… and only trump. Nobody else matters. If he says otherwise it is lip service , a straight up lie to get out of a tight spot, or a mistake by someone he can blame.

Lawmakers should shitcan this fools’ errand negotiating with Rump. Cant believe a word he says, he’ll be claiming the opposite within a week.

Negotiate legislatively with one another. Pass the law, and let Rump either sign it or don’t.
