Discussion: WaPo: Mueller Probes Michael Cohen's Role In Russia, Ukraine-Related Episodes

I almost said that myself - I won’t be one bit surprised.

Trump is telling everyone to just come out with everything they know. Isn’t he?

Not to mention his years of close association with Felix Sater. Is Felix still a double agent for the CIA or is he under scrutiny for a possible role in this mess?

I’ve lost track of all the crooks and liars…

Agreed. I feel like the only people that give the Sater angle to this whole story its due are Josh and Doc Maddow. The fact that, as far as we know, Mueller is still hands-off with Sater is mind-boggling. The other question I’ve had all along that the WaPo story brought back to mind…
Why in the hell did Cohen/Sater say Flynn was the right guy to bring the ‘Ukrainian peace plan’ to? Maybe Tillerson wasn’t sworn in yet, but still. The argument for NSA to be in on that as a first point of contact stinks to high heaven.

I have no idea about Felix Sater except that the two of them are mentioned together in Simpson’s testimony frequently. Cohen’s name seemed to me to come up more frequently than any other non-Russian name.

Felix Sater is truly a case of truth being stranger than fiction. Do a little digging, starting with Josh’s work here. If half of what Sater says about himself is true and half of what has been written about him otherwise is true…

I don’ know nothin’ 'bout no Godfather, Senator.

I’ve read Josh’s pieces on him and I know he’s very strange - I just don’t know if he’s still CIA as spencersmom asked.

I agree he is quite a figure.

From what I have read Felix Sater is some kind of agent for the CIA/FBI. Anyone involved with Sater is going down. He has been dealing in info for years to keep himself out of prison. Obviously he has good intel because he is still not in prison. Cohen is in big trouble if he is relying on Sater for anything.

I’m still waiting for real life to give me the opportunity to say, “Cicc’, a porta!”

And this from the comments to the Wapo story:

"Would it be reasonable to mention in this article that Sater

a) did time in jail for money-laundering and other things;
b) was FBI informant for some time;
c) had a business card that clearly identified him as Trump’s senior adviser with the office address in Trump Tower?"

Fair points.

What a nice juicy story out of WAPO today. The New Yorker piece on Christopher Steele which excerpted findings of an unpublished Steele memo, call it Steele Dossier Part II, didn’t get enough coverage because of ‘Nuns’ on the run’ Nunberg. I fell for that b.s. too. It was always a scam to distract from that news story.

So here’s what WAPO has laid out:

  • TT Moscow Discussions shopped by Cohen and Sater.
  • Ukraine ‘peace plan’, also shopped by Cohen and Sater by way of pro-Russian UKR legislator, Andriy Artemenko.

I would also throw into this mix the rumor stated on Lawrence O’Donnell’s show by GOP consultant Mike Murphy – that Mueller has questioned someone with knowledge of a memorandum of understanding between Trump (I assume the Trump Org) and various Russian Oligarchs. Per Murphy, Mueller has a copy of this MOU. If this aspect of the story is true, Cohen is likely involved.

I would also throw into this mix the starring role that Michael Cohen has in the Steele Dossier. Per Steele, Cohen was also involved in talks with Kremlin agents and hackers on how to protect the operation and process deniable cash payments from increased scrutiny, and to keep the operation going after the election if HRC had won. Making illicit cash payments?..that doesn’t sound like Cohen at all?!..They also arranged for alternative bases of operations for hacking (Bulgaria and using Romanian hackers) after the scrutiny on the Russian connection to the DNC hack + Manafort’s resignation. Cohen was also involved in covering up “Moscow’s secret liaison with the Trump team more generally.” This was tied to at least 1 strip Cohen took to Prage in August/September of 2016. In essence, Cohen picked up the slack to fill the void left by Manafort.

We also learn that Cohen resigned from the Trump Org in Jan 2017 and became a personal lawyer for Trump and made several visits to the WH throughout 2017.

We’ve heard for months that Felix Sater may likely be cooperating with the Special Counsel, so I suspect that Mueller has a lot of data on Cohen and is trying to get as much evidence as possible to see if he’s a witness or an accomplice. I suspect Cohen is an accomplice given the central clean up role he plays. You can tell from Nunberg and Stone that these old-time Trumpers had a misguided personal investment in Trump, thinking that his win would be theirs, only to be betrayed and screwed over. Yet, they keep coming back for more because they’re too comprised and have no other useful commercial skill. It reminds me a bit of the Malfoy family in the Harry Potter series. They show fealty to Voldemort even though he never has any intention of repaying the support. It’s just about a desire for power.

We need trading cards with all their pertinent stats on ones and pix on the other.

That’s a great idea, lastroth! Just imagine what the rookie cards will trade for when they all start dying off in prison!

Sater will come up when Mueller investigates Fat Nixon’s business and financial crimes because of the Bayrock connection. King Tub, greatest memory of all time, claimed that he might coulda not picked him out if he was in the room but Sater worked for years in Tramp Tower and had a TrampCo business card.

That’s why I’m wondering if he’s still an informant for the Feds. We haven’t heard much about him lately but, like a bad case herpes, he will reappear…
