If we are going to start digging, we might want to start with re-reading Kenneth Anger’s classic Hollywood Babylon. Politics is just celebrity for ugly people, and there is no evidence that the perversion at the bottom of the politics profession is any less than in the regular celebrity industry. Denny Hastert was hardly better than Fatty Arbuckle. Finger-in-the-vagina Trump is interesting in that he picks up the celebrity patina of Ronald Reagan. However, while Reagan had his Selene Walters, he did have political experience before assuming the presidency.
But it’s nonetheless a very convenient, upstanding sounding explanation after the fact, right?
I’ve been wondering about the dress code at this officespace since I heard this account. I think if you saw what she was wearing, you would have your answer.
It’s worth noting that the official statement regarding Keillor’s termination doesn’t describe the allegations. Link to statement below but I’ve pasted here the extent of details…
… after recently learning of allegations of his inappropriate behavior with an individual who worked with him.
Last month, MPR was notified of the allegations which relate to Mr. Keillor’s conduct while he was responsible for the production of A Prairie Home Companion (APHC).
Statement From Minnesota Public Radio Regarding Garrison Keillor and A Prairie Home Companion | Minnesota Public Radio
This is looking very similar to Spacey where the allegations turned out to be much more.
Something doesn’t add up. I don’t know what it is but it looks like they’re trying to get out in front of something. It didn’t make sense to drop House of Cards over some decades old alleged drunken groping (tho Spacey’s reply was weird) until a torrent of accusations followed. It may not even be about sexual harassment or towards a woman, everyone’s assuming it’s about what Keillor says it’s about.
I don’t trust Hiatt’s statement either.
I am an artist. I thought my gallery owner was funny. I enjoyed talking about art with him until he kept trying to give me shoulder rubs. I said no. He tried hugging me. I said no .He told people I was his special friend to my horror. We had agreed on a solo show of my work in the small back room at his gallery but I left the gallery when it was over You may be surprised that I remained friendly with him. In small worlds, and all creative worlds are small, you don’t make enemies with someone more powerful. You just don’t unless you want to live as a pariah. The fact that this woman remained friendly with Keillor was very likely essential to her livelihood.
Very well set out.
OT: I love comedy and your dog, too; but I love my dog even more.
I actually thought Hiatt had been canned when Bezos bought the Post.
He’s harder to get rid of than herpes.
No. They are losing their jobs because they are being accused. They are not ‘allowed’ to defend themselves. Ever.
Ah, the old “she asked for it” alibi. Pleh!
You know, the clicheed, baseless accusations never lose their sting.
