WaPo was far too kind to Ryan.
They should have been truthful and called him the spineless lying hack he’s always been.
By July 17th, the eve of the convention, EVERY Republican or conservative of any stature or public notoriety will have come out with a full-throated endorsement of Trump. Every one. If in some Looney-Tune world David Duke had won the GOP nod that statement would still hold true.
“On Thursday Mr. Ryan capitulated to ugliness,” the board wrote in a blistering op-ed. “It was a sad day for the speaker, for his party and for all Americans who hoped that some Republican leaders would have the fortitude to put principle over partisanship, job security or the forlorn fantasy that Mr. Trump will advance a traditional GOP agenda.”
Congratulations to the WaPo. This is exactly right.
I, for one, will remember everyone who endorses Donald Trump…whether they want to call it that or not…because they’ve permanently lost my respect.
And when they try to lecture the rest of us on morality, we’ll just have to hit back with two words - Donald Trump - and if they have a conscience, they’ll shut up.
As always with the GOP
Party Before country.
The prime directive.
By July 17th, the eve of the convention, EVERY Republican or conservative of any stature or public notoriety will have come out with a full-throated endorsement of Trump.
It will be interesting to see how many GOPs are “too busy” to attend the convention. Translation: Ashamed to show their faces.
" Mr. Trump does not believe in much of anything,” they wrote. “ BINGO !
Was there every any doubt? The GOP is spineless, craven and will never put country above party.
At least the “Never Clinton” BernieBros can point to some sort of bedrock of conviction. The GOP lacks even the most basic of moral compasses.
“On Thursday Mr. Ryan capitulated to ugliness,” the [Washington Post editorial] board wrote in a blistering op-ed."
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t a statement of the editorial position of a newspaper still just an “editorial?” An “op-ed” traditionally appears opposite the editorial page, and represents the views of persons other than the editors of the publication in question.
Ugly is as ugly does…as long as it pays future dividends
The editors at WaPo surely must be mistaken. They couldn’t possibly be talking about PAUL RYAN, SUPERGENIUS!!! - you know, the Teabagger Titan who balanced the budget to a “T”, and wrestled a b’ar when he was only three!
“Mr. Trump does not believe in much of anything.”
With apologies to Shelley:
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
“My name is Donnymandias, king of kings.
Look on my bankruptcies, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of those financial wrecks, boundless and bare
The lone and level insolvencies stretch far away.
“But I was a rebel,” said Ryan. “Well, at least for a little while. I stood up to the big bully Trump until I checked my polling and saw that if I didn’t endorse him I could be voted out of my seat in the House by angry Republicans in my district. I still need to serve a few more terms in order to get that sweet lifetime pension.”
So will I, pshah. Here in PA we have soon to be 1-term Senator Pat Toomey who is steadfastly holding to his “I will support the nominee” stance. Once Trump becomes that nominee, I hope Kathleen McGinty’s people and supporting PACs are ready with an explosion of ads that focus on “Toomey = Trump”.
Not that I watch TV but I’d like to read about them!
Watching all the GOP elites line up behind Trump reminds me of a feeling I had in the days after 9/11 2001. I spent days in front of the TV, watching for every new bit of info that I could find, and I remember switching channels a few days after it happened and seeing a ‘psychic hotline’ ad and it made me just burst out with a short laugh. They couldn’t see September 11th coming, but they can tell me if I’m going to get that new job or what my love life is going to be? I never actually believed in that stuff to begin with, but I remember thinking if 9/11 didn’t put them out of business, then there were some people out there just gullible beyond reach.
This reminds me of that, all these decades the GOP went on and on about their moral superiority, their Christian values, their conservative philosophy of self determination without the help of a nanny state. And now they have Trump. He’s everything they hated about the Clintons on steroids, he’s the Clintons, the Kennedys and the Kardasions all rolled into one, and they’re endorsing him. How can anyone ever believe their crap again? How do they endorse this compulsive lying, serial cheating, tax evading slimeball and still claim with a straight face that they are anything but partisan hacks?
I would suggest that Reine Priebus and the GOP start hiring an army of licensed proctologists, because after the convention when the REAL election starts, it is going to be awfully difficult to pull those Trump endorsements out of their asses. I especially want to see Ryan looking like he has hemorrhoids the size of grapefruit.
He did what everyone paying attention knew he would do, because he’s an unprincipled little shit bag.
The question is, how did these people build up an image of Ryan as someone principled or reasonable in the first place?
No, it wasn’t an op-ed but it was an editorial, the collective opinion of around a dozen people who evidently all agree trumpf’s an ass. This honest assessment will shortly lead to donald saying something about Jeff Bezos, Latino background, the Washington Post is a lousy paper only losers reads, but the editorial got there first by saying "it’s a sad day for America", trumpf’s favorite phrase.
@meri Paulie speaks in complete sentences about economic policies, albeit devastating ones, which none of the other Rs can do, that alone makes him seem like a wise man to the rest of the know nothing party.
@pshah “because they’ve permanently lost my respect.” You’re a better person than I am to think there is someone respectable in the R party
Well…at least Ryan has his new campaign slogan set:
I Gave my Rump to Trump: Let’s Bend Over Together. __ Ryan 2016

Paul Ryan did not capitulate to anything.
Paul Ryan is ugliness incarnate.
