Discussion: Walmart Asks Employees To Contribute To Food Drive For Coworkers

That’s kind of perverted but I suppose it’s needed since Walmart does it’s best to manage employees hours and keep them low so they do not have to pay benefits. At least they acknowledge that their employees are unable to make ends meet with those low low everyday wages they pay by permuting food drives to take place.

Sadly Walmart is not the only retailer paying those low low wages and diligently putting effort into keeping employees hours below the threshold for paying benefits or even overtime on holidays.

You’d be surprised if you saw others who are doing this. Human Resources departments starting adopting Walmart employment practices as their own years ago.

Any of you familiar with Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) ? Don’t you just love this outdoor retailer that calls itself a Co-op (to lessen their tax burden) and all of its wonderful toys for active adults? They use the Walmart model but I’m pretty sure they’d never allow a food drive for their employees who are “In Need” Oh…and record profits every year I believe…

I’ve got a radical idea- Walmart should pay a decent wage. They should also pay their taxes instead of forcing their employees to seek government assistance without paying taxes!

Of course not…after all, they should get sick and die so as to reduce the surplus population.

New rule should be: If your employees require social assistance to survive, you lose all tax deductions and massive executive pay packages get put on the chopping block to pay for the additional tax liability…and that goes even if the money’s already been paid to said executives. We will chase you down for ripping us off. Period. No questions asked, no loopholes, no escape. Social assistance is not there to subsidize corporate profits and executive pay.

I think I hit that point last year.

At this point, it’s time for an actual Depression so that people’ll actually vote in politicians who can then raise taxes so high on the rich that they get to finally experience the pain.

Yep. What these retailers are doing taking amounts to nothing more than taxpayer supported corporate welfare.

And you have to understand that what Walmart is doing is very important to the plutocrats’ plan. Walmart is bottoming the barrel, so to speak.

They’ll say “oh, but then we won’t be able to provide all these products for so cheap to so many people in need of them at affordable prices something something we’re actually doing so much good for the lower middle class by providing low priced affordable goods.”

No. What they are doing is functioning as a pressure valve for other employers, which is why this behavior is so widely supported and even protected by congress. If those goods were priced at what they need to be priced at in order to provide Walmart’s employees with a living wage and reasonable benefits, there would be more pressure for other employers to raise their wages. Less willingness to work for bottom of the barrel wages that don’t afford you a tv or furniture or food for your children. If the Walmarts and Targets of the world didn’t exist in their current state, people wouldn’t be able to afford those things and they’d be fucking pissed. The manufacturers of those things would be fucking pissed. The workers in those manufacturing plants and in the communities where those manufacturing plants are providing jobs (for those not already moved to china at least) would be pissed. “I work 40-50 hours a week and I can’t even afford a cheap ass kitchen table???” would turn into “I want a raise or I fucking quit” would turn into “I’m not working for you cuz you pay so bad I won’t even be able to afford a kitchen table.” By carefully arranging and allowing for, even encouraging, what Walmart is doing, Walmart serves as a pressure valve on that situation.

And what the politicians and their favorite economists will tell you is this: “It keeps inflation from spiraling out of control. If everyone got more pay and could afford higher priced products, then the prices would just go up and up and up forever.”

Voila. Ready-made ideological fantasy excuse that nobody understands and the MSM can help them sell.

What pisses me off is that us taxpayers are supporting these folk. With wages so low, the people qualify for federal and state benefits. They’ve come into DC promising jobs, aren’t putting as many stores as committed because they adopted a $10/hr minimum wage law, and thankfully these unemployed folks can get some sort of paycheck, but hey, we’re covering the shortfall. I’m sure this is their business model.
