I don’t live in WI either but I know what Enbridge did to the Kzoo river and its tributaries, and its still a shitpile of globby heavy tar sands sitting at the base of the riverbed, unable to be dislodged. Mitigation efforts and cleanup have been whitewashed in MI by a lot of politicians here, pretending its all being dealt with and is now in the rear view mirror.
Enbridge is not a good corporate neighbor in any sense of the phrase. They are a plague that not-so coincidentally the Koch Bros. ultimately profit from, since their financial investment in the Alberta tar sands is the biggest foreign lease on that land. That is indisputable. If you want to understand why and how these Republicans in midwestern states have all become gerrymandered in order to do the Kochs bidding, look no further than what they sneak into their Republican led legislatures when budget bills are due, especially as it relates to energy, land rights and eminent domain. That’s why the push for closing open records is the next attempt to hide their evil doings. Its an ALEC led effort I believe. We’ve seen the same attempts in the last several years in many surrounding midwestern states that have both the state houses and the governorships under Republican control. That’s no accident. But thanks to Citizens United, we no longer get to see the full picture of how Koch money is contributing to these politicians coffers.
"The motion would make all 10 members of (WRS) lawmakers. The change would kick off of the committee an assistant attorney general, the commissioner of insurance, the administrative head of the retirement system and a member of the public who doesn’t participate in the retirement system to “represent the interests of the taxpayers.”
Seriously, Scott should emulate the WRS with his own fiscal management and not try to take over a well managed fiscally sound system.
What is that he and the rest of the GOP are always saying about big government? The WRS is not broken, doesn’t need a fix or takeover. Sounds like the Wisconsin GOP needs new funds to plunder.
I grieve for the same things you do. And the amazing thing is that people still vote for Repubicans.
So, therefore, the public self-enslaves, either by non-participation (Democratic weakness) or sociopathology (Republican weakness-turned-into-strength-for-the-0.001%).
This is a sweet one. An effort to quash the public’s right to know is itself quashed because the public knew about it. I guess it’s safe to say the what happened to this effort was what the effort was trying to prevent. Won’t hold my breath waiting for the MSM to point that out.
