Wal-Mart Plans To Raise Its Minimum Wage To At Least $9 An Hour

What a gracious move by Wal-Mart!
Even if 15 years late.

Woooow… They’ll raise their decades old rock bottom minimum wage salaries to a whole $9/hour… this for the largest corporation in the US, which makes multi-billion dollar in profit on a yearly basis.

How… “generous”… of them (not). A one handed golf clap in their honor.

Will they also be ramping up the food drives for their employees to now include some produce in addition to the cans? Or maybe up their game with their enrollment of their employees in Medicaid and Food Stamps to also give them financial advice on how to manage this unexpected huge financial “windfall”? …

For a company with a 44% turn over rate, this seems just a little late. We’ll see if it really happens and if it makes any difference. I will still not shop there.

It’s not enough. Not NEAR enough.

Don’t hold your breath… So far, they are SAYING this only to counter bad publicity… I’m sure it’s only bullshit.

OMFG! It’s true - The world IS coming to an End!!!

I don’t see where they are emphasizing full time work. One of the real problems we have is employers are capping workers at 29 hours to avoid benefits.

Workers need to work a full week to emerge from poverty. The way government can help is to scrap the ACA for single payer health care. Take the employer out of the healthcare equation and they won’t have a reason not to offer 40 hour weeks for all or almost all employees.

It’s a start, but keep the pressure on. Keep after Wall Mart and the others to offer $15 an hour AND health benefits: deep discounts for all employees at their store-run pharmacys, for example.
