Discussion: Vulnerable Sen. Mark Kirk Won't Attend GOP Convention

this means nothing if he is still willing to caucus with repubs… While their presidential election rhetoric sucks, congress is where they act out this bs.

if he is cool with it in congress, he should enjoy the Convention.

I suspect most in Illinois feel the same, and don’t fall for this window dressing…

Better headline.

Kirk will be too busy losing to attend.

but I thought chicks dig it when a guy shows vulnerability… does this mean he’s passing on the women’s vote?

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush Ā® has also said he will not attend.

This practice of referring to ex office holders as if they still hold their position is weird. Florida has a Governor. It is not Jeb Bush. Is Illinois Senator Barack Obama our President?

Republicanism, the love that dare not speak its name.

@steviedee111 If I’m not mistaken, one of the last former presidents to not be called Mr. President when he left office was Theodore Roosevelt, who was again called Colonel.

He can only caucus with them if he holds his seat. Which is looking increasingly unlikely.

Yeah, according to Miss Manners, former officeholders are addressed by the title they used to have. Sorta reminds them of the heady days before they became irrelevant (like Bush) or had a huge impact on the world (like President Obama).

As far as Kirk goes (and I hope he goes verrry far), he’s soon to be addressed as Senator Kirk, but in the irrelevant, GTFO, way.

Hey, the still called him The Governor in The Walking Dead, even after he lost his town, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

Whats the rule for multiple office holders? Like why is it always Madam Secretary instead of Senator for Hillary?

I know. Still weird. Jeb walks into a room. It’s full of people from other nations. A friend with him walks him over to the Defense Minister of Malaysia and says, ā€œI’d like you to meet Florida Governor Jeb Bush.ā€ Um, ok…

as a sitting senator, he could stop caucusing with them now to show he is serious…

as he won’t, he’s not.

I guess we can agree on something…:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Most recent. So HRC won’t be Madam Secretary, but Madam President in a few months.

Too busy with his campaign, heh? If the convention were being held in his own living room, he’d be too busy to attend. If were being held on his own campaign bus, he would be busy campaigning elsewhere.

It is wildly incorrect to address former elected officials by the title of office that they no longer occupy.

For example, Bill Clinton may be referred to as ā€œformer President Bill Clinton,ā€ but he is addressed as Mr. Clinton.
The honorific title of Mr. President is reserved for the current officeholder.
This is also true of any other elective office.

It’s not a courtesy to call them by a title they don’t hold.

Oh my God, I’m shaking, I don’t care so much what the GOP does. This can’t be good for me.

Look, if they stick with Von Clownstick, older polls have Clinton wiping the floor with him by between 12 to 25 percent. The most recent polls I have seen have her beating him by at least 11 percent.

If they go with Cruz, polls show Clinton beating him by at least 10 percent, and that’s just if he gets the NOMINATION. Cruz is hated so much by the GOP leaders that they will work about as hard for him as Jeffrey Daumer worked on his anger management problems.

If they go with Kasich, the GOP will go, ā€œwho?ā€

Paul Ryan has said he doesn’t WANT the fucking thing. I don’t know about you, but members of the Clinton campaign have got to be short-stroking it at the thought of running against a guy who doesn’t even WANT the job.

If they go with a dark horse, like they did with Garfield in 1880, most of the GOP voters will simply check to see what’s on TV instead of making an effort to go to the polls.

As long as we cast a ballot, it doesn’t MATTER what they do.

also higher office usually takes precedent.

however preference is a factor. I believe AG Mukasey went by judge mukasey…

So if Cruz is elected President the correct way to address him would nevertheless remain ā€œThe Face of Godā€ I guess.

Well, I thought it would be ā€˜Mr. Shitkicker,’ but ā€˜Face of God’ is about right.
