Discussion: Virginians Say Northam Should Resign By A Two-To-One Margin In New Poll

Americans say Trump should resign, by nearly the same margin.

ETA: Cameron makes a similar observation

That 16-point gap is similar to the 17-point unfavorable gap President Trump holds in the Democratic-leaning state

And since about 40-50% of those polled wanted him to resign as soon as he won, I don’t see how this is very different from the election results.

To be fair I think he should, but this poll strikes me as trash info.

Guy who thought blackface was ever okay, even in the 80s, thinks he should remain governor now it’s come to light. Quelle surprise!

Agreed. Also it’s a poll.

Let Northam propose Medi buy in and get back to governing. What Dem will oppose it?

This is rock bottom. This poll doesn’t mean shit. It’s a reflection of a brutally negative news cycle.

Lay low. Don’t quit. Don’t reward the ratfuckers.

To really piss off the haters, just act like it never happened and attend to state business.

You mean besides the identity politics purists, who’d burn a political ally at the stake just demonstrate their purity even if it meant elevating an actual devil who’d fuck up their lives?

Daily Kos used to be a liberal, rational site; a pretty solid reflection of a reality based community,

It’s devolved into a hardcore bastion of identity politics. The founder himself even declared that a white male Democratic nominee is unacceptable.

I’m a person who judges the value of an idea on it’s merit, not by the pigmentation of it’s author, so with all due respect, Markos can go fuck himself.

Identity politics is like sugar. It may give you a jolt and a high temporarily, but in the long run it’ll render you fat and tired.

24% want him to stay in office, and since he won, presumably about 50% of him wanted him in office in the first place. So losing half of your support seems pretty significant.

Numbers: they’re fun!

I have a gut feel that these so called “polls” are nothing more than disguised disinformation campaigns. Anyone who has done polling or surveying using multiple methods and media should know that the answer you get when you look someone in the eye has a strong possibility of being different when the same question is asked anonymously.

There appears to be a multi-pronged attack on both political parties to sow massive disruption and distrust in our democracy and government. We need to seriously ask the question who has the most to gain and benefit. The answers may not be as obvious as first thought or what the original evidence suggests.

Democrats have got to climb down off the Moral High Ground and accept the fact that we are all flawed individuals, Democrats and Republicans alike.

The difference is that Democrats, flawed as they are, try to pass laws that will help hundreds of millions of people better their lives, while Republicans, equally as flawed, try to pass laws that primarily help the wealthy.

From now on, I think resignations should be required only from office holders who have broken the law. For everyone else, let’s let bygones be bygones and move on.

Tough choice: between a guy who put on black-face role-playing Michael Jackson 30 year ago [maybe there are photos of him role-playing Othello, too] or a twice accused much more recent sexual predator.

Just saw a reporter from Vice on MTP say if a Republican has to run Virginia for a few years that’s the price we have to pay.

You have to wonder if the questionable yearbook pic had emerged during the '17 campaign, and Northam botched the response just as badly, with Gillespie still going full racist reactionary on the other side, would the winning margin have been much different? I doubt it.

And 2 out of 3 Virginians are going to get less than expected in their tax returns!
There is a reason Paul lying Ryan left town. How’s that “Post Card” tax return with
the $4,000 extra per tax payer working out ?

That’s silly.

Has Donald Trump resigned? Steve King?

Costumes from decades ago should not ruin people’s careers, especially in light of the fact that Northam and Herring will both work to expand voting rights in Virginia, redistrict the state fairly, and expand Medicaid. Furthermore, they both support removing Confederate statues from state land.

Republicans are almost certain to do the opposite.

Virginians are wrong. Northam should not resign, but the Lt. Governor should.

How, exactly did Kos confirm that their poll participants were “Virginia voters” ? Nonsense.

Polls are funny, but there is a WaPo poll out that has completely different results.
