Discussion: Virginia Dem Leader Calls For Inquiry Into Sen. Puckett's Resignation Amid Questions Of Quid Pro Quo

Discussion for article #223690

Why are Republican state legislators, especially rural state legislators, going to such lengths to fight expanded Medicaid? Surely they realize they are hurting the future of their party? They must also realize that many of them are hurting rural and regional hospitals very badly and many small rural hospitals are going to close. Emergency care is going to be seriously degraded for both their constituents and their families. A lot of people are going to die. This is really a cutting off your nose to spite your face situation.

Virginia is one of the states where the governor doesn’t appoint an interim legislator. And, if the effective date of the resignation is still up in the air, the GOP could run out the clock by getting it within 75 days of the general election.

They only hurt the future of their party when voters know who’s been screwing them. Unfortunately, many Republicans represent lower-income, low-information districts where voters who desperately need help have been conned into hating Obamacare because … well, you know.

I know, and this Puckett guy . . . he’s the urinal scrim of the day. I feel like I have to get a toothbrush and scrub his filth off me.

But will he actually do anything about it, or was he just spouting bs to a reporter?

Bribery and Corruption- it’s just that simple.

It’s clearly unethical; but is it illegal? If predictions hold the Puckett’s will be paid-off with a fat government check after selling-out Virginia’s 400,000 poorest men; women; elderly and children.

Bribery; Racketeering and Fraud are just a few predicates to RICO, but I’m not holding my breathe for anything like that unless the Virginia AG decides to play hardball.

Absolutely shameful.

No time to waste here - get that investigation going. And get some ads up on the air.

In other words, yet another Grumpy Old Party lesson in how to game an already rigged system in order to get rid of your opposition without the people having any say about it.
Neat clean job, I must say. There was just one tiny flaw in the execution (and by execution, I mean the execution of democracy)
They let somebody else find out about it.
And people who still retain a shred of belief in “democracy” wonder why it’s so difficult to overcome public lethargy, and get them to show up at the polls.
This would be one of the reasons why…
