Discussion: Video Shows Third-Grader Handcuffed By School Resource Officer

Discussion for article #239037

Another cop who shouldn’t be. Feel better now, tough guy?

Placing handcuffs above the elbows? That sound both tortuously painful and likely to cause broken arms. Is it even legal?

Good Lord…
The Covington, KY police have a long history of brutalizing young boys and driving them further from society. Police budgets, like school budgets, in this impoverished area have been cut to the bone.

Please don’t tell me that he is one of the resource officers who routinely carries a gun.

Looks like the officer has advanced from setting ants on fire with a magnifying glass and torturing captured field mice.

The principle should be fired while they’re at it. Who the hell would let a cop run amok in your school like that?

This is just sadistic. Look in the upper right corner of the video and you can see this piece of excrements face. He is enjoying this.

The child is not mentally ill like so many reports on this subject have reported. He has a learning disability and I would hope his IEP, which is required by law to be in place, covers the proper methods to deal with situations like this. I guarantee shackling his arms behind his back is not in there.

No words can describe how wrong this is. And this cop used to be a teacher. He knows better. He justs gets off on this. Sick bastard.

Yes, they do. Covington/Kenton County is like so many areas we’ve been reading about in the news lately. It’s a mix of (mostly) poor blacks and whites, with an almost all-white, mostly suburban police force who see themselves as occupying troops fighting off the unruly insurgents. The police are little more than weaponized tax collectors making up the most idiotic reasons to make arrests, and the hefty fine levying judges are just as complicit. This is a truly evil, sadistic bunch of assholes, and it doesn’t surprise me one bit that they assault children too.

No, but the child has PTSD. A 9 year old with PTSD! Of all the people who have suffered enough abuse, this kid is probably it.

More of the same with this bullying into submission, no matter who or what the situation. A person trained in dealing with children with these conditions would be a better investment than an “officer”.

I really don’t know how to respond to this. Is society really going off the deep end in so many ways?
What I do know is that when I showed up to the school and seen my kids like that. The cop had better already called for help because he is about to reap all the hell I can put forth towards him. I hope the ambulance is on the way becasue he is definitly going to need it.
I’ll deal with the courts later.

This is absolutely sickening. Whoever does something like this needs to be jailed for child abuse, no matter what his/her position. This is NEVER appropriate.

I think the article said ADHD…

Although PTSD, is likely now…

The principal AND the teacher! Where was he or she?!

These are children, for god’s sake, with behavioral disorders. Where are the professionals here?!

As the father of a now-15 y.o., mildly autistic boy with ADHD, I feel expertly qualified to comment.

If this lard-ass can’t physically control a third-grader and stand up to him “taking a swing” without using handcuffs, he shouldn’t be in law enforcement. Fortunately, the idiot didn’t fear for his life…

Actually, I read in the local paper that he has both PTSD and ADHD.

Words just fail. And the angry words that come readily to mind are hardly printable. As difficult as it is to shock me today…I’m shocked beyond belief.

What’s next? Waterboarding a child who fails to pay attention or flips a rubber band?

The saddest part is this poor kid is going to have trouble with LEOs in the future because of (rightfully) negative feelings toward LEOs. He will likely get himself in trouble (or dead) because of this animosity.

This type of situation I’m sure is all too familiar to minority children.

Jesus H. Christ. My ADHD kid is 13. While he’s definitely a handful for some teachers at times, I cannot imagine an incident taking place so severe that he’d need to be shackled. I’m furious as I write this. It looks like the kid took a swing at this guy, and so he cuffs the kid. Un frigging believable. I want this guy’s head on a platter.

This is where creeping Authoritarianism leads…nowhere good.
