Discussion: Video Shows NYC Plainclothes Cop Repeatedly Punching Young Man

today is just another day.

What “revolution” is this idiot Lynch talking about? I’ve lived in NYC for 40 years and the attitude he is attempting to instill in the police ranks is the only remotely revolutionary thing going on in this city right now.

The four cops who stood around and watched while the young man was assaulted by their fellow officer are just as guilty of abuse as the one who threw the punches.

Every one of them should be charged with dereliction of duty at the very least.
The plainclothesman should be charged with felony assault.

His bombastic positions are what he wants the rank and file to adopt, and that’s a shame.

The more things change, the more they stay the same is the French proverb.

Most of my ancestors settled in places like Brooklyn, Coney Island, the Bronx late 1800’s and early in the 20th C.
They were mostly of Mediterranean background, good, law-abiding citizens. I never heard any stories of criminality.
They worked the same jobs for years in factories, offices, their own businesses.

Two days ago, I learned that cousin Philip, one of the remaining ones, died at age 90-something. Have not seen the man since childhood. He spent WW2 in the Navy and at the Brooklyn Navy Yard as some kind of technician.

Another female cousin was a Navy ensign in the cryptography dept or whatever they called it then.
Others were in the Marines and Army.

They told the same stories that black men tell today of unwarranted police beatings on the streets and alleyways.
Why? They just wanted to keep those greasers and wops in their place.
It’s a police culture that has changed little if at all over the years especially in our big cities.

The NRA encourages all citizens to arm themselves for various reasons. One of these reasons is to resist tyrannical government thugs. Well, here is an example of a tyrannical government thug who used violence against a citizen who peaceably submitted to police authority. I look forward to the NRA encouraging citizens to shoot first and ask questions later when confronted with this kind of extreme abuse of police authority.

Better than doing nothing. It’ll lead to a tipping point.

No. The body cams are necessary to force the public (white people in particular) to see the truth. Even if justice isn’t always served.

Without video we would only have heard Tamir Rice was brandishing a weapon (that looked REAL!!!) at the police and wouldn’t drop it after being told 3 times to do so. A majority of people would think that’s plausible.

Without video we would have been told Garner resisted arrest and/or simply died of a heart attack after his arrest.

Without video Darrel Wilson’s supporters can say that Mike Brown charged him like a football player and rest comfortably with that and just tut tut about the real problem. Black on black crime, teenage pregnancy, single mothers, or whatever the favorite deflection topic is of the day.

The public has to be made aware of what many minority populations are faced with in dealing with the police.

Wow…what a piece of shit. However, I will note: he’s proving our case for us by providing the ultimate example of the mentality they suffer from…so I say please proceed…

It’s sick enough that it belongs in DSM-IV. This little piggy had authoritarian delusions of grandeur…

Bull spittle. What we lack in almost every example is what preceded the beatdown, which is where the entire breakdown in prosecuting these belligerent fucks occurs. Body cams are an absolute necessity and they need to be accompanied by laws that make very inconvenient presumptions against the officer if his camera is somehow not working during the incident.

“…how many videos are we going to have to watch…”

Enough to finally break through social inertia. It’s a maddeningly slow process, but it must be endured.

Tie a knot and hang on. We’ll move toward rectifying the problem, but it’s going to require perseverence.

Friday, or just a day ending in ‘y’.

Here’s my advice: from now on, people assaulted like this should just claim the cop apologized after. Why? Because then the cop either has to look like an asshole for denying he apologized OR agree that he apologized and thereby admit he felt guilty, which is evidence that he knew it was wrong.

Also too: Remarkable how frequently these guys present as a white, fat slob who walks around with an air of self-importance and often with a severe case of “I.L.S.” (“Imaginary Lats Syndrome”…you know, dudes who walk around with their arms away from their sides like they’re big and built, even though they’re not). I mean, just look at that video…there’s like 3 or 4 of them who look like they couldn’t run around the block unless you tied a fucking donut to a string and hung it off a stick taped to their forehead. Of course, with the fat slob ones, their arms rest at the unnatural angle anyway from all the flab.

Beating a kid instead of just shooting him - the new kinder/gentler NYPD.

Hmmm. Interesting strategy. I’d love to see how it plays out IRL.

Camo-jacketed cop clearly assaulted this kid. He clearly should be fired and prosecuted for assault. Let’s keep an eye on this and see what happens.

You “look forward” to the NRA recommending shootouts on the street over stomach punches? I hope this is snark on your part.

This wasn’t the aggressive, pump up hitter’s problem. He was on the other end of the scale.
