Discussion: Video Shows 3 Cops Repeatedly Using Stun Guns On Handcuffed Man Before His Death

Discussion for article #242774

The hour delay between the videoed event and returning the victim to the emergency room is suspicious; continued tasing during that interim could have stopped his heart, regardless of the coke in his system.

There’s a warning on that Taser and in its manual: Do not use it many times on the same person as that can be fatal.

But the language they use is quite telling. “Light you up” “Pop you” suggest a cavalier and unprofessional attitude given they were using a degree of force known to cause death.

He was tased at least 26 times. Many of those times being while he had both his hands and feet shackled. He was also tased for non-compliance because he was slumping in the back seat of the squad car.

And the Virginia police released a statement, “Move along, nothing to see here.”

Is there anything more dangerous than an unarmed man in handcuffs?

Occasionally, the idea of a vengeful God seems appealing.

An unarmed man in handcuffs who is unconscious, in a choke hold, and tests positive for melanin?

Wait, they were supposed to take him to the hospital for a psych eval, got there, tazed him, stuck him back in the car and tazered him a bunch more and then came back with his corpse. Why did they leave the hospital exactly?

The war on cops is real and it should come as no surprise to anyone. Cops who are bad actors are now more likely to be captured on camera. Cops who are innocent but silent about the murders and assaults that are going on are guilty by association. “If you see something say something” isn’t only directed at the civilian population. If silent cops don’t say something then they are now considered to be accomplices to the crimes committed by their fellow officers.

“…an appropriate and necessary use of force alternative to more harmful and lethal options available to law enforcement officers.”

That phrase covers ALOT of ground. He was “lit up” 26 times? Jesus F*cking Christ.

Generally speaking, it is true that shooting a shackled detainee is more harmful and lethal than tasing him.

The issue in this case, however, is whether the use of the taser was an appropriate and necessary use of force used as an alternative to LESS harmful and lethal options available to law enforcement officers. Based on what’s been reported in this case so far, it seems clear that professional policing standards would have called for these officers to choose a use of force option that is even less harmful and lethal than tasing.

Tasers are meant to be an alternative to the use of deadly force. That does not mean, as these particular and many other officers seem to think, that the use of tasers is appropriate in all the other circumstances in which deadly force is not appropriate.

Unless the vengeful God likes to cosplay as a police officer.
