Have the vote and whether the veto is overridden or not, the Dems gain something. I don’t expect an override, but every Republican who stays with Trump will have that albatross around their neck in the next election.
A few quotes from the Battle of Bunker Hill
“A few such victories would ruin the Army” -A British Colonel as he was dying.
“I wish we could sell them another hill at the same price.” -General Nathanael Green, Continental Army
At some point, the cost of defending Trump will have to outweigh any possible benefit, right?
The huge sucking sound from the Repub Congress is almost deafening.
Donnie you are the man. Sucking up to Putin and Kim and getting nothing in return, you are fabulous .
We all love you.
As Rick Wilson put it - "The Shart of the Deal.’
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is reportedly trying to paint the vote as a choice of loyalty to Trump above constitutional duty, and may bring it back to the floor every six months to force Republicans to show their obsequiousness to the President.
I see that Speaker Pelosi is desperately clinging to the Myth of the Honorable Republican’t. Has she really not been paying attention for the past 40 years?
The again, why bother having the vote at all? I mean, it’s not like she has the votes to override. And the standard, I guess, is that any Democrat who can’t count to 2/3 shouldn’t be elected, amirite?
Maybe this (from the linked Politico article) provides some insight?
But even as some members of the GOP face a backlash for defying Trump, few if any House Republican defectors who supported the disapproval resolution are expected to flip their votes and side with the president in the override vote, according to lawmakers and aides.
I was referring back to the raging argument against impeachment from another thread, which is based on the idea that since we don’t have the votes we shouldn’t even bother trying…
Yes, I got the reference, but I was wondering what you thought of the tactical argument (that some Pelosi supporters are bound to make).
The tactical argument is neither. After 2.5 years of hearing how Trump is a traitor and Putin’s Puppet, they argue that Democrats, for the good of the Democratic Party, rather than the good of the country, should DO NOTHING and allow the Russian Secret Agent in Chief to continue having access to the nuclear launch codes and all of our super, top secret intelligence simply because we don’t have the votes in the US Senate. Does that make any sense??? You’d think they’d be demanding that Democrats IMMEDIATELY do everything possible to get him out of office RIGHT NOW, even if it meant a coup d’etat, since we already know he’s guilty, and he’s an existential threat to Mom, Apple Pie and Democracy. Instead we aren’t going to do dick about it because we either don’t actually believe the hyperbolic bullshit that was slung for the past 2.5 years, or we are all now Putin’s Puppets…
