Discussion: Very Few People Could Get Confirmed If Trump Fires Sessions—And None Of Them Wants The Job

In the Brazilian city of Americana…

Gov’nor sammiches would have taken the gig in January 2017 but I doubt he’d touch it now.

Senate Republicans suspect that only a sitting senator who is unconditionally loyal to President Donald Trump and respects Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe could get both chosen and confirmed if Trump fires Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The opening sentence of the article. This applies to any other hack who would take the gig.

It’s a crazy day when we Democrats and sane people everywhere have to actually support Jeff f**king Sessions continuing to remain as Attorney General of the United States, simply because anybody else Trump might nominate for the job would be worse and would be expected to be more of a Trump lackey by leaps and bounds.

I don’t disagree. But what you’re missing is that Trump has played 100% to the base. He’s not the President of the United States, he’s the president of the conservative base. Playing up so furiously to them he’s even hired numerous neo-nazi’s in top positions of his administration. I know we’re supposed to call them white nationalists or alt-right, but their racist neo-Nazi’s.

Republican politicians are more concerned about their jobs than their country and all the others you mentioned.

That’s why I skipped over this article at first. TPM may as well start a new section called “Noble Political Fantasy” for articles like this one.

Isn’t the President able to appoint someone temporarily who has already been confirmed by the Senate? I think so. That person could fire everyone the President wants fired within day. Senate confirmation does not stand in the way of that. The President just has to fire Sessions.

For all effective purposes Trump’s presidency ends if both the Senate and House go blue. Given the absolutely horrible relationship he has with Democrats generally and the contempt in which they hold him, nothing much will happen until 2020. He will be the lamest of lame ducks. That is even assuming they don’t impeach him before the next presidential election.

It’s the selective amnesia of pols that makes all the cries ring hollow that, if the House turns and impeaches Fat Nixon, there is no chance of removal by the Senate because as many as 17 R’s would have to turn coat. Once the transom’s underwater the R(ats) will swarm to the bow and declare they never wanted to share the stateroom with that awful “Captain” the passengers (i.e. voters) forced on them.

Although frankly, I’ve always thought that if the House merely begins to hear articles, Fat Nixon will do what not-so-fat Nixon did, resign in disgrace rather than face the music, and blame everyone else from the door of Marine One. We’ve all seen how little stomach he has for a fight. Then Pence will pardon him, and it will look like 1974 all over again but for all the state charges, which will provide limitless entertainment and demolish whatever fiscal positions the Trump Org. has and/or send it’s principles up the river.

That’s roughly what the smart money seems to be saying. Impeachment and the 25th are unlikely barring some huge change of circumstances. But with even one chamber, the investigations get serious, and serious investigations are kryptonite for Trump.

Yeah, knowing what a coward Agent Orange is, it’s seemed to me that a replay of the Nixon denouement has been the most likely outcome from the start. Once Adam Schiff cranks up the subpoena machine the shredders will be overheating over at the WH and the minions will be pleading out as fast as they can write the deals.

His real estate empire could crumble. The Scots already hate him and would love nothing more than to put him out of business so someone “clean” can take over his property there. Without his moneylaundering business, I doubt any of The Trumps could make a living. Even Ivanka’s clothing line is on life support.

One doesn’t have to be real bright to understand the long term effects of being associated with this bunch. It’s a career killer and may, in some cases, result in folks losing licenses (e.g., being disbarred) just for accepting a position with these ninnies.

No, I can see a whole lot of positions going wanting.

Maybe Trump can hire some of those folks getting bounced off of Medicaid to meet the work hours requirement?
