Who paid for this appeal work?
This whole thing seems so half-assed. Why did she want to run as an independent? If legit, why didn’t she collect enough signatures? Was she a shill? Why?
Virginia is for Cheaters.
GOOD DECISION Virginia Supreme Court!!!
Hey STOP SPREADING FAKE NEWS!!!
She looks like a grifter, laundering money stolen from gov’t program (for feeding kids!) through a "campaign.
ETA: Further checking reveals a mistrial on fraud charges, will be re-tried retired in October.
ETA: bad spelling fix
My question, exactly.
Because she got creamed in the Dem primary. My guess is that she was promised some reward by the Rs.
Hoping for some credible voice in Virginia politics to inform us on what the living F is going on here with Shaun Brown.
It wasn’t like D nom Luria is w/o cred or ran unopposed: Luria is ex Navy to the office of commander, which is far from not nothing, and she beat out Kathy “Duck” Mallard, who isn’t nearly so strong a candidate at this point but does have party cred and would not have been an objectively inadequate nom by any stretch.
But try and try, I can’t find anything about Shaun Brown’s background. Her website APPEARS to be tagged to Ballotpedia but it’s clearly either been shut down or was a blind hole. Her twitter feed self-describes as a “business woman” but links to nothing so who TF knows, other than she self-id’s to Virginia Beach - yet provided 3 distinct residential addresses AND self-admits to ‘actually’ living in Hampton.
And Luria’s lawyers aren’t attacking Brown for fraud, but instead R nom Taylor as HIS campaign workers were responsible for ALL the apparently forged of fraudulent signatures on Brown’s petition to have her name on the ballot. Meanwhile Taylor has somehow managed to both ACKNOWLEDGE his campaign was deliberately helping to get Brown on the ballot, yet denying any responsibility for forgery or fraud, tho the ONLY signatures successfully challenged for fraud or forgery were ALL gathered by Taylor campaign workers.
So I get what Taylor was up to, but what I don’t get is the motivation of Brown to go along with this. If she is, as she claims on Twitter, a Democrat and progressive, HOW COME her name wasn’t on the primary ballot?
There appears to be something really slimy going on with her attempts to get on the ballot. I hope it gets the attention of the state and federal prosecutors. It clearly involves the Repugs at some point and undoubtedly includes more than forging signatures.
Va supreme court dismisses candidate’s appeal to stay on ballot in forgery case
From story
Brown’s name first appeared on the ballot due in part to a signature-gathering effort by campaign staffers
For rep. Scott taylor (r-va), her would-be republican opponent in the race.
Dozens of signatures collected by the republican’s staffers were later found to be fraudulent,
Spurring a democratic lawsuit, which led to circuit court judge gregory rupe kicking brown off the ballot earlier this month.

The candidate __ drops out (or is barred by court order) of the race (compensation).

As a __ penalty __ if __ there is a 2 or more republicans running for the office __ the front runner is barred from running.
This decision worries me as reported – it appears to be essentially a decision by the court that the lower-court action (a temporary injunction) wasn’t properly appealed, and that it doesn’t want to see the case until a permanent injunction is issued. So not really a dismissal but a deferral.
What worries me about that is that it gives Brown’s “supporters” time to miraculously discover forgotten petition pages with valid signatures, which will be submitted to the court once the permanent injunction is filed. If the ballots then get printed before the late effort gets slapped down, she’s on the ballot even if a subsequent decision says she shouldn’t be.
I hope this ends in multiple election fraud convictions.
