The bottom line is that this article has so many loose ends, it is difficult to understand what happened exactly.

This happened in Fredericksburg, too. https://wtop.com/virginia/2018/01/exclusive-va-knew-voting-wrong-house-districts-issues-2017-election/

You could come to a reasonable conclusion based on their voter registration, then by asking them who they voted for. Wouldn’t survive a court challenge, of course.

In 2018 Virginia still cannot run ā€œfree and fair electionsā€? How do these mistakes occur? WE have become a Third World Country!

I know Shelly was the REAL WINNER in that race! Hey, let’s do it again!

Actually, the Dem won by one vote after a recount, but the Republican panel of judges who were supposed to only certify the election took the word of a Republican election judge to put in a vote he’d earlier rejected, which then threw it to a tie. The Dem election judges had other ballots that could have gone to the Dem, but the judges said it was too late for them to contest it. Hence the drawing of names from the fishbowl and the Republicans successfully stealing this seat.

That’s the model we have to contend with in November.

I can see no recourse here unless they were to sue to hold a new election. The names of those wrongly assigned would not translate to us knowing their votes.

The Republican is serving in office is my understanding.

From the way he’s talking, he’s already gearing up for 2024.

And why do we trust folks who can’t even get simple bookkeeping right to assure us that none of there systems could possibly have ever been hacked?

Something is rotten in the state of Virginia, methinks. A lawsuit is due.

Not really… there no question the ratfucking comes from the Republican side…

We don’t.

unless they prevailing thought is that hackers would look to help Democrats, then we could trust Republicans to put a stop to it.

It’s unfortunate that no private agency or government entity or private/public partnership has developed a technology that could pinpoint within meters the geographic location of a person or persons using perhaps satellites and mobile trackers funded by the user in a monthly post or prepaid format. If this such technology existed one could theoretically, accurately place a voter in our convoluted gerrymandered district system in the exact district they reside maybe an application installed on a device would assist this function. Obviously a verification process, maybe cross referencing with other publicly available information would enable a more complete and secure way to hold an election.

But alas this type of technology doesn’t exist and so we run into issues like misassigning districts and we all lug around our latest editions of the Thomas Guide to help us geolocate ourselves.

They can’t even cheat well. Gerrymander districts, then assign voters to the wrong district, and still lose by one vote.
