I almost didn’t add Love to the list, but incumbency seems to have made her stronger/safer. In her first election, she barely eked out a win but she did considerably better last November. Utah is a weird place. There are lots of things I love about living in Utah, but politics is not one of them.

Couldn’t tell ya but Obama had a huuuuge rally in madison in 2012 and has been here 6 times going back to 2008. Kerry came to Madison in 2004 with Bruce Springsteen for god’s sake(actually Obama came with Bruce as well). Obama didn’t anything to help during 2011 when Walker began to turn us into as we like to call it now, “Wississippi,”. Sadly, Obama promised to “put on comfortable shoes and march” in Wisconsin when Walker first began to destroy our civil service but then became quite reticent to talk about our problems much less help…or march; but people were still hopeful in 2012. On the other hand, Bernie Sanders came to Madison twice and talked specifically about our problems w/ the Governor.
This State (not just madison) really needed some help and frankly, some federal intervention and we got nothing. none the less Trump got just about exactly as many votes as Romney in Wisconsin while the blue voters stayed home. As I’ve mentioned before Hillary failed to devote herself and adequate resources here after being warned that we were not a “sure thing” and instead devoted resources to the lost Iowa under the belief that even though Iowa was lost, it would bleed trump a bit if she wasted additional resources here “faking him out”. This included her national campaign refusing the request by Iowa people to physically come to Wisconsin and Michigan to help there, and at least one case,ordering a bus full of SEIU people to return to Iowa. If you want to blame all this on the made up “Bernie bros” or Jill Stein, go ahead, but
what you’re doing is sowing the seeds of the next Democratic party defeat-as someone who volunteered with the deems and unions during the Wisconsin crisis of 2011, The Democrats and unions appeared to me to be masters at wasting resources and acting like pricks to a lot of people who wanted to help.
We know a bit about political defeat in the face of seemingly obvious wins here (not to mention being sure our Governor would be in prison by now). Why anyone thinks the Rs and trump have to lose in the future is beyond me. these people cheat, lie and have the capability, like Scott walker did; to literally make their violations of the law legal afterwards. That doesn’t do go well with a gentrified party of elitists that really seem to have no more of a clue about what real working people experience than Trump and the Repubs, but at least those guys know how to fake it.
The kooks in the Dixiecrat wing got co-opted by the GOP, who was looking to get back into the South.
The progressive/liberal/‘Rockefeller’ Republicans, who can’t coexist with Confederate cretins, switched the other way in response.
