Because, British papers that aren’t owned by Rupert Murdoch have somehow found a way to stay above water by reporting on actual news and they’re running this obviously ridiculous and futile experiment testing whether there’s any market for such a thing in America.

That’s exactly the guy I was thinking of when I typed my previous post. Can you imagine if that had been a young, black man standing around brandishing a gun? He’d have been dead the moment police arrived on the scene.

To give attorney Hunt the benefit of the doubt, he was probably fed a self-serving lie from the police about the details of the shooting.
Damnable evidence now has to be taken into account.
Cops are liars, and are not your friend. What you were told in 1st grade is a pack of lies!

And yet, he’s not even roughed up, and ends up being charged with a misdemeanor. Now, he may have just run into a particularly restrained group of cops, but still, if he were black…

They are now stuck at trying to credibly include the original lying statement into a scenario with accumulating evidence. Tangled webs and all.
It’s the chief deputy attorney for the place that is being forced to publicly carry the police’s water. I’m certain that he is enjoying this duty.

I have “souvenir” swords that could do damage, and I suspect that particular katana looked more or less authentic. The thing that should have caused the cops pause was the rest of his get up. He was dressed up like Halloween, which would make my first guess that the katana wasn’t the real deal. What grown man does that in the middle of September? Little boys in Superman capes in July and little girls in princess dresses any time, OK, but a grown man in what is obviously a costume in the middle of the day in September? His overall appearance should have engendered a cautious conversation to sus out the facts before guns were waved and chasing ensued. Being weird isn’t a good reason to shoot a fleeing costumed guy in the back.
What’s the saying again? “Live by the sword, die by the sword?” I’m just saying I have little sympathy for people running around with swords threatening people in public … not saying it was right or wrong or who was to blame, just saying there are bigger items to be concerned about … next issue please.
The whole POINT is he if was white and doing it with a gun he would have just been watched.
This is known because it is what has actually HAPPENED.

I’m sorry, but the British papers, Murdoch owned or not, are far more sensationalist crap than anything that you will find in the actual newspapers here. Because they don’t feel the need to fact-check anything. In fact, it is a well known republican strategy to go talk to any of the British papers (though the Telegraph and Mirror are Republican favorites) to tell them about American politics, and then cite the article written about their own lies as proof that what they are saying is true. Even with the stenography that happens in the US for political reporting, most newspapers wouldn’t let that happen here.
The only thing the British papers do well is reporting on stories that make the US look bad. They will go over the moon to do the best reporting possible if the end result is making Americans (not our government or our system) look bad. They love pushing the idea that every American is a guntoting racist.
