“declares pornography a “public health hazard,” specifically in the way it treats women and children.”

At least HB 155 sounds reasonable. It should be a crime to willfully fail to report child pornography.

Mormons are hazards of a different type.

It also states that pornography “equates violence toward women and children with sex and pain with pleasure, which increases the demand for sex trafficking, prostitution, child sexual abuse images, and child pornography.”

Is Herbert describing his personal peccadillos?

Yes indeed:

Utahns, famous for their wholesomeness and frugality, buy online pornography at higher rates than the rest of America.

This needs to catch on in all red states. They are so non family values without it. Porn sites should start blacking out the states to be helpful.

This was signed despite vigorous lobbying efforts on behalf of Kleenex® and Vaseline™.

“Utah Gov. Gary Herbert (R) signed a resolution Tuesday that declares pornography a ‘public health hazard’….”

GOP logic:

Unclothed human bodies = “Public health hazard”.

Guns that literally destroy human bodies = “Constitutionally protected freedom”.

From your link.

Deseret News reporter Lee Davidson in 2007 found that Utahns were more prone to search for words like “topless” and “pornography” (as well as “Jesus” and "home storage").

Disturbing.

This is yet another case of picking the extreme (child pornography) and using it to blame the benign (pictures of naked people) in the name of puritanism of religious faith. It will be a great day when we decriminalize sexuality in parts of this nation.
