Discussion: USA Hockey, Women's National Team Players Reach Agreement On Earnings

If we’re talking about pay equity, no where in this article is there a dollar for dollar comparison about which the basis for this fight over pay was initiated. I find that disturbing, as the ramifications of holding out was hopefully to have broader implications for all women’s sports and women in general. Instead, I see they got a better deal and increased their own pay and benefits, but what is lost is how this compares with the men’s team’s pay and benefits. So this isn’t exactly a win for the country as far as all women go, as much as a pay increase for this team of winners. But…I’m sure that’s all that matters, since holding out is now in the rear view window and the issue has been resolved for this particular team…Eh, maybe I’m too cynical today.

Me: “Hooray for this progress, and what it can mean to women’s pro sports beyond USA hockey. It’s ridiculous the way female athletes get paid/treated. I’d wish for their sake that they could get over-paid to the same level that male pros are, but I suppose there isn’t the same amount of money floating around in female pro-sports. Regardless, they deserve the same % share of the pie that male athletes get, even if the pie itself is smaller.”

A summary of what’s being posted by alt-right-wingers all across the internets today in response to this story: “Whiney, entitled snowflake millennial feminazis! They should be happy they’re even allowed to hold a hockey stick! Who’re the beta male cucks that gave into them? I’m an alpha male! I’m a tough guy! Rooooooar”

Unfortunately, I’ve spent enough time in you-tube comment sections (which is unfortunate all on its own) to know the above is being posted without even needing to see it. I’d like to see those alpha males strap on some skates against these women and then watch the women cross check them through the boards. Yeah, I’d pay damn good money to see that.

No, I don’t think you are being too cynical - history shows it’s warranted. That said, this agreement is a step forward, and from the quotes in the article at least, it seems the players were happy with this result.
