Vive La France, bragging rights forever.
2 weeks ago, he made the deal. I honor it.
This is a story that’s going to be buried, not only in America media in general, but sites like here. Which is sad because it shows how vigilance AND a media that doesn’t go to the lowest common denominator for sensationalism can protect democracy.
Also this explains how Macron was able to immediately respond in the short window he had, before he was legally muzzled due to French Election rules, and say the Russians implanted forged documents into the document dump. To be fair, he didn’t elude to Russian interference, but this connect the dots only has 2 dots.
How do you figure the story is being buried on TPM? You saw it here and you commented on it here. I’d bet a small sum that Rachel Maddow will be spreading the word on this tonight.
I expect that avoiding Russian interference will prove to be difficult if not impossible. What is important is being able to respond to it quickly and minimize its impact.
Just look at the attention it’s receiving from an optics standpoint Stadi. It’s like Bill Maher’s analogy about the Trump administration being like a swarm of bees, you’re going to miss stuff trying to deal with all their crap. Plus it’'s foreign affairs, people don’t really have the attention span for anything other watching video of the US bombing another country when it comes to that.
Also doesn’t help at AP’s site that the article is at the bottom and the moment another technology aritcle is published it will get bumped from the front page.
It’s up to people like you bring this to people’s attention, since it doesn’t have the legs to get out in the public alone.
I sincerely hope Democrats have had and will continue to have discussions and training sessions about how to protect their campaigns going forward. Were it up to me they’d treat their email as if the American people were standing over them reading each and every one. It’s time to go old school. Anything important or that could result in the slightest raised eyebrow should be said over the phone.
Trump: It could have been the Russians. Or it could have been the Chinese. Or it could have been Obama from a souped up microwave…
“The United States watched Russians hack France’s computer networks
during the election and tipped off French officials before it became
public”…
Well…better late than never…
I am relieved that Macron’s campaign was prepared w/ a response (and possibly even planted misinformation to throw them off…not sure if this has been proven?)…after what happened here, there is no excuse for any campaign to not anticipate it and to be prepared on how to respond.
Doesn’t mean it will be easy.
One difference is that France doesn’t have a Fox news…
I am watching Sinclair media snatch up more stations and I think that that is something politicians are going to have to factor into their tactics.
I am going to beat my drum again now for massive canvassing efforts…in person, in person, in person and listen, listen, listen…this is the best way to counteract any of the Republicans’ and the Russians’ BS.
Forget the phone. They can be listened in on, too. It should be said face-to-face, or communicated in encrypted form.
If I were advising a campaign, I’d tell them that all electronic communication must be encrypted. Phone conversations have to happen over wires – no cell phones.
i hope Putin calls up Trump and gives him heck for not firing whoever it is in our government that caught the Ruskies spying on the hackers. DO you think Trump even knows we are doing that?
ETA: Please note, I wrote this 2 days ago, before Comey was fired, and before the Russians visited the WH. I can’t believe the president of the United States met with the Russians after they attacked France, our allies. A true president of our country would have spoken out against the Russians, not embraced them at the WH. This is so bizarre. And where are the GOP patriots on this issue?
Our union’s attorney tells us “The e in e-mails stands for evidence” - as in don’t put anything in it you don’t want to see in court.
On the other hand, I use that the other way too. When a worker’s boss tells them to do something illegal, I tell the worker to send the boss an e-mail saying “I just want to confirm our earlier conversation and that you are directing me to…” It’s amazing how quickly the illegal directive gets rescinded in cases like that. And, in the rare case it doesn’t, the worker has a protective paper trail.
Anything in writing is discoverable, so your union’s attorney (which echoes the advice of my union’s attorney) advice applies equally to any written communication. Don’t put anything in writing you don’t want to see in court.
However, there are things you wouldn’t mind seeing in court that you don’t want in the hands of your enemies while it is actionable information. Encryption is the key to keeping your comms away from prying eyes.
Uh oh. Mike Rogers is a deep state mole! How long before he’s removed from the NSA?
The world now must see Vladimir Putin for what he really is: a sleazy Soviet-era thug.
Putin is the poison in our world today. He’s been secretly trying to undermine the progress of democracies around the world, spread fake news, instigate social discourse, create humanitarian crises (the Europe’s refugee crisis), and contaminate political process and electoral activities (installing Trump in the White House). But Putin thinks everyone is as stupid as Trump’s supporters. And he’s failed - miserably - in France’s last election. Now, with his bitch, Marine Le Pen out, Putin is counting on his other bitches: Theresa May and Donald Trump and Erdogan to carry out his agenda. One thing for sure, Putin has succeeded in eroding the people’s confidence in the US government, the UK government. Putin has also succeeded in weakening NATO alliance. And this has been Putin’s biggest prized item. For years, NATO has been keeping Putin from walking all over Europe like he did in Ukraine. Now, with Trump the Idiot in the White House serving his Neo-Soviet agenda, Putin is planning on other moves. To Putin, it’s all a chess game. And he’s counting on checkmating the free world soon. And once that happens, the world will get to welcome the real ugly face of FASCISM!
