Pyeongchang is on the other side of the country from Seoul and at least twice as far from the border as Seoul is. It’s not within artillery range like Seoul is.
Do we even know that this position would be driven by concern for US Olimpians and not by solidarity with Russia?

Yeah, the artillery is mostly concentrated in the west. IIRC, which I may well not, on the east coast even the ROKs put up some defense and slowed the invasion a little in '50. That did not happen elsewhere.
