Discussion: US To Increase Number Of Immigrants Targeted For Deportation

Coming soon: Newly minted vigilante ICE agents stopping all brown people and demanding to see their papers. Refusal to comply? You are now accused of a crime and on a bus to the Mexican border. See how easy this is?

I reckon we’ll be seeing the effects of this by the end of the year in areas like agriculture, construction, service sector jobs in border towns.

will it be a quota system for ICE agents like the cops are ‘not’ supposed to be given for handing out tickets or will it just be a straight bounty system?

will Joe Arpaio be put in charge?

Suspected? Charged? So… no due process. You look guilty to me.

We really ARE horrible people aren’t we? I spent my whole life believing in America. I believed t he whole ‘give me your tired your poor’. I embraced the immigrant stories…the Kennedy’s, the Carnegies, the more recent Indian success stories. I believed we could do anything and now we are being run by the Rich, for the Rich and at least 40% of the country seems to think that is OK.

I don’t see ICE agents working any harder. They are going to need more resources to pull this off. Are they actually increasing resources?

The problem with this policy is it is going to force illegals to keep their heads down even further which means they won’t report crimes. It makes them easier pray for crooked employers.

Will it take that long?

This isn’t just going to cause undocumented immigrants to keep their heads down, it’s also going to intimidate immigrants with perfectly legitimate documents and american citizens who someone things might look like immigrants. If you don’t have the right papers on you, and someone from immigration “suspects” you of a crime, good luck.

We aren’t really horrible people. Some of us have just lost their way. I think we can change, but we have to reach out to people in the suburbs and rural communities. Sadly the only people who pay any attention to them are Republicans.

One of the lessons of history, all the way back to King Roger II of Sicily (in the 1100’s) is diversity equates to a strong, advancing society. When that diversity begans to be challenged and restricted the society begans to deteriorate. We are truely in troubled times. When I listen to the Trump supporters pledge their loyalty to him (and their poorly reasoned reasons for this support) my heart weeps for who we were and who we could be. The short-sightedness of our leadership and the 40% of our society is truly stunning.

I used to believe as you do. I did when I came to America 46 years ago. When I became a citizen I took this oath: (there may have been a few words different then I think, but it meant the same thing)

I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and
abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate,
state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject
or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of
the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear
arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I
will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United
States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national
importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I
take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose
of evasion; so help me God.

It’s rather like the oath that a President of the United States takes on their inauguration. The difference was, I meant it; Trump and how followers don’t. There are horrible people out there. There are irredeemable people out there. There are those who will never accept that they could be wrong about something or someone. There are large numbers of people out there that would eagerly assist in the ethnic cleansing of America of undocumented immigrants, or Muslims, or Jews, or blacks, or LGBTs, or any specific group that the hate. This is not a small group people that would do this–the last election told us that much. To ignore that fact, or to believe that they “have just lost there way” is to put in danger so much that most Americans hold dear. Yes, try to reach out and change hearts and minds, but never forget that there are millions that will never change no matter how good your intentions may be. They will respond to an open hand with a fist or a gun. Right now, the irredeemable are in power and they are normalizing the hatred of others. Pretending otherwise is to open our nation to a darkness that it has never experienced before.

I’m sure there are a large percentage of folks that joined these forces specifically so they could treat people they think are beneath them like shit and get away with it. Yeah I know some percentage of cops are the same way, but I imagine these folks are just the worst of the worst!

We do kind of suck, but we lead the world in believing that we’re the best at everything.

No papers, and you are definitely “suspected” of a crime, so that’s it for you.

Naaah. The disenfranchised white all-american Christians from the rust belt and Appalachia will recover their dignity, drop their syringes and rush into the sprawling suburbs of Atlanta, Charlotte and Dallas and claim the challenging service jobs cleaning offices, landscaping and dish washing as well as the minimum wage construction vacancies create by the departing mexican job thieves . The inner cities will stop been the hell holes that they are now as the young men move to the agricultural areas in the Central Valley, the Great Plains and elsewhere in order to take the energizing and fulfilling outdoor farm jobs.

And if they ever feel a bit disappointed about the pay, they can always take solace that the mexicans will be really screwed when they return to their towns and realize the effects of mass migration.

Or, pretend to pay attention by promising stuff that will never happen. But mostly by reinforcing and legitimizing the hate and resentments of those people.

I believe they have already proposed hiring more ICE agents. They also need more jail cells and more judges and courtrooms. Huge costs, while cutting taxes on the wealthy and corporations. Good thing that deficits do not matter when Republicans are in power.

Don’t forget “and pissing off major trade partners”

You are mistaken, they fled to the suburbs running because they did not want to have anything to do with us. Last thing they want is us “reaching out”.
