Why anyone would want to go there in the first place is beyond me.
Does this include Ambassador Rodman?
I trust they’ll make an exception for Dennis Rodman.
Was gonna say, does anybody want him NOT to go? With the wedding dress and all?
In a free country the government wouldn’t tell its citizens that they’re not allowed to go anywhere.
They might state that should they go to any of the countries on that list they are on their own and no effort will be made to bring them home or help them, but the whole banning thing is so Soviet era.
Well, there goes my summer plans. But I guess I’m still allowed to go to Moscow with my sunscreen and a briefcase full of state secrets.
Hey, Trump is missing a brilliant business opportunity here. There’s plenty of starving cobblers to make Ivanka’s illegal designer shoe knockoffs.
This is one ban I am not sure why I would oppose.
I think it’s a pretty good litmus test for “I reflexively oppose literally anything done by this maladministration” versus “I oppose only the bad ideas of this maladministration (i.e., ~99.9%)”.
I know, that was my immediate reaction as well.
How Mississippi escaped this edict is a puzzle.
About fucking time. There is no reason beyond the curiosity of seeing what a relic from the Cold War looks like to visit.
No more American CIA agents in North Korea. I wonder if Tillerson was blindside by Trump’s behavior because he didn’t bother to discuss it with the CIA or State.
For the same reason some people think the world is literally flat. They don’t believe what they hear, NK horrors must be propaganda. Or they go as a part of humanitarian efforts, which usually means handing out Bibles. Or, if they’re young, it’s combination of ignorance and the “I’m never going to die” shield that warmly envelops most people under 25.
My knee-jerk reaction was similar…just because it’s the Trump administration. But on reflection, I tend to think it’s a good move.
Biggest single reason I think it’s a good move is because it gives us fewer things to be outraged at NK for. At a time when so many are calling for us to “drop the (nuclear) bomb” on NK, giving people fewer opportunities for outrage against NK is a good thing. It also takes the U.S. government out of the position of having to keep negotiating returns and threatening consequences for NK’s non-responsiveness.
The Trump administration will ban American citizens from traveling to North Korea.
I understand, however, that they will make an exception for Muslim-Americans, who will not only be allowed to travel to North Korea, but actually encouraged to do so.
