Discussion: US Senate Confirms Eric Fanning As First Openly Gay Army Secretary

“The voice vote approval on Tuesday came after Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., dropped his opposition to Fanning after a senior Pentagon official told him that no detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, would be sent to the Army prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, or other facilities in the United States.”

Because if we did send detainees to those locations, we would have no need for an Army Secretary. Thank-you, GOP.

Progress: the GOP used to hate people because they were gay, now they hate them because they might threaten expensive counterproductive boondoggles.

I’m surprised the Republicans didn’t demand that he promise to make LGBT people use the opposite rest room from the one they prefer. They must not have thought of it in time.

If Levenworth is so unsafe as to not be able to potentially hold detainees, should it not be shut down?
