Discussion: US Prevents British Muslim Family From Traveling To Disneyland

But what on earth does “pre-approved” mean? Is it an actual visa? I recently went to Australia and needed a visa to go and for which I paid some $50.00. But I don’t think that is the case for any citizen of the UK who wants to come to the US. So if not a visa then what is a “pre-approval”? Were all members of their party UK citizens?

But the individuals asked and weren’t given a reason. So the government is stonewalling the individuals.

Unless it’s a matter of national security, we do have the right to ask - and to be told why the information isn’t forthcoming. If it isn’t a matter of national security and the individual authorizes its release, the government can’t deny an answer.

Reading multiple British sources tonight, this isn’t as simple as it seems.
~ One of the adults had had a run in with Israeli immigration officials when he tried to enter Israel in the last 4 years. Guardian)
~ One of the children’s Facebook account had a pro Al-Qa’eda post (the family claims the account was hacked). (Guardian)
~ They were planning on staying with a cousin who lived in San Bernardino and who went to the same mosque as the terrorist couple. (BBC) http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-35171175
~ Only one of the adults was on the don’t fly list, but the airline refused boarding to the entire group (something about 9 children travelling with 2 adult men, no women present might, just might have worried the airline).

In a separate incident, one of the imams of London was also refused entry. Can’t think why. He was a candidate for Parliament and was forced to step down when his virulent anti-Semitic comments surfaced.

Often in cases like this, people should wait before reaching conclusions (something I feel the MP raising the brouhaha in the UK is about to find out)

Actually, it sounds more like ex-president Cheney is running the show…

Speaking of Cheney, Muslims, and Disneyland, am I the only one who thinks the Enchanted Tiki Room is an egregious violation of the UN Convention Against Torture?

Not to be oppositional…but surely we don’t assume we know
that to be a fact merely because someone asserted it…

Are you suggesting it’s the family, not the government, that refuses to release this information to the family? Oh, then you’re just obfuscating for the hell of it. Your user name gets the irony award.

Omigosh. Those are certainly reasons to deny people entry. If you’re a paranoid police state.
