Discussion: US Policy Change On Cuban Migrants Leaves Many Stranded

Boo effing hoo.

That policy has always been crap, feeding into the Cuban impression that they matter more than Mexicans, Dominicans and Mexicans. (Yes, I repeated myself because Cubans loathe Mexicans.)

So, take your pity party of 2 and go back home.

It is absolutely outrageous that Cubans citizens are the only immigrants in the world to enjoy residency upon arrival. Not Syrians, not N Koreans, not any of Iraqi and Afghans who worked for US forces in their native countries as interpreters etc. all of whom are now subject to extra judicial killings in their homes.

My husband is Venezuelan. His closest friend with whom he grew up has a Cuban mother/grandmother and grandfather, etc. 50 of their family members born and raised in Venezuela and none of whom have ever even visited Cuba, obtain in Venezuela their Cuban passports and immediately moved to the U.S. working illegally for the first few months until they received their automatic green card. None of them were actually required to wait a year as the law requires because under the law the green card was automatic.

There is no reason Cubans should not be subject to the same immigration requirements applied to every other immigrant.

This policy should have been changed on Year 1. No nationality should have a preference in immigration. All should follow the same rules. Obama has finally decided to do decisive things. Had he done this kind of thing in Year 1, his ineffectual, accomplishment-free presidency might have been considerably different. As it is, this ridiculous policy may be reinstated in 8 days.
