I trust the Russians will “reflect” on this per Tillerson’s instructions.
This might mean a little more if Russia didn’t also know in advance of the U.S. missile attack.
The official said the presence of the drone couldn’t have been a coincidence, and that Russia must have known the chemical weapons attack was coming and that victims were seeking treatment.
Maybe I’m not getting it, but after reading the information available in the article, I don’t see how this “official’s” conclusion follows from the information presented.
Russia was informed ofnthe missle strike because we inform each other to avoid conflicts. It’s much different if Russia knew about the chemical attack. That makes them an accessory to mass murder. Though so does the help they’ve been giving Assad before this. So what now? Cripes, how I wish Obama was still in charge!
but, ralph, this was an approved leak.
That’s the standard reason.
This situation might be different. Every move that any side makes in this situation has to be viewed through the lens of what Russia thinks Trump owes them … which we don’t know quite yet.
For all we know, this is all being choreographed to set Trump up for some kind of diplomatic “victory” over Russia that justifies easing the sanctions, which is what both parties really want.
On the other hand, maybe Trump has decided it’s time to treat Russia like all of his other creditors over the years, with the tiny difference being that this time he has put U.S. foreign policy up as collateral.
The moves we are seeing don’t tell us much about what the real game is. Hopefully we will find out soon … and live to tell about it.
For example … What does it mean that after it is known that Russia knew about the gas attack in advance, Spicer does this?
