Discussion: US Military Renting Space In Trump Tower For $130,000 Per Month

As long as that money is going into Trump’s pocket and not some poor people for food or health care, it’s all good.

It’s the military for dog’s sake, just occupy the offices, screw paying rent…

The government signed a $2.39 million lease to rent more than 3,000 square feet in the building from April 11 through Sept. 30, 2018, according to a lease the newspaper obtained from the General Services Administration through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Congress set aside $120 million in May to pay for Trump’s security through the end of September, about half of which will be used to reimburse the cities of New York and Palm Beach for the high security costs they have seen as Trump and his family travel.

Why a six month lease? Something about this seems kinda off…

It’s not six months. It goes to September 2018, not 2017. Though something is still off about this if you ask me.

You gotta wonder why some investor (ahem) just happens to own an empty floor in trump tower. And how many other floors are empty. And what the real market rate is for that space. And whether any nearby buildings might have been cheaper. Or whether trump’s own enterprises have any empty space…

Third Amendment.

Yeah - the amendment for not housing soldiers in peace time is just the 3rd amendment. It’s not like it’s the 2nd amendment (god’s most favored amendment) after all! Trump should be totes on-board.

That’s the end of the fiscal year and when the budget runs out. Expenditures for the military can only be approved for two years at a time (US Constitution, Article I, Section 8).

Somehow I never heard about the DoD renting space in the Obamas’ Chicago home for $130K per month.

And does anyone have a line on this Joel Anderson of Alabammy? Could he related to John Miller?

He owns Anderson Companies of Florence, AL.

Begun in 1917 as a newsstand in Florence, Alabama, the Anderson Companies now do business in several areas. Anderson Media Corporation is the largest U.S. distributor and merchandiser of consumer magazines, pre-recorded music, and books. TNT Fireworks is the country’s largest importer and distributor of consumer fireworks. Anderson Press publishes children’s books and houses Anderson units, Whitman Publishing and H.E. Harris, which sells books and supplies for coin and stamp collecting. C.R. Gibson also sells collecting books, such as photo and scrap albums. For the purposes of its estimate, Forbes excludes Books-A-Million (nasdaq: BAMM), a publicly held company in which the Anderson family is the majority stockholder.

Harry Truman: “The buck stops here.”

Donald Trump: “The bucks stop here.”

[This is not spam. It just happens to be appropriate on most threads about Trump, And let’s face it, what else is there these days?]

Yeah well at least we kept the vagina and her email servers out of the WH, amiright?

Shouldn’t be a problem since that money is being donated back to the US government.

…uh…right?

No big deal. I’m sure Trump supporters would have been fine with the DOD sub-leasing space in the Clinton Foundation building if HRC was President.

As @the_loan_arranger pointed out, that’s through the fiscal year.

But, personally, it seems like surprisingly prudent budgeting for a government agency, factoring in that Trump may very well not be in the WH by then

The good news on all this grifting is that they are so blowing away the norms and usual metrics that the Republicans will not be able to complain again about how much it costs or how much he travels for his Democratic replacement for at least a generation. He’s literally rewriting the rule book on what you can offer up as a specious argument…
