Discussion: US Military Assigned Wall-Painting Duty To Improve 'Aesthetic Appearance'

Gee, if you’re so eager for a wall, why not build new parts first instead of painting the existing ones? Doesn’t sound like a emergency at all.

Our nation has the time and money to paint a wall. But not the funds to pay for educational, recreational and legal aid services for migrant children wallowing in warehouse detention centers.

Seems legit.

Gotta go, TPMers.

I’m on my way to the enlistment office. Want to get there before the line forms.

This is exciting! I’m ready to serve my country!

If Trump gets to approve the design, it will be simple: his name in the largest print possible repeated over and over. His best branding project yet. He’s still waiting for the neon sign to be installed on the White House.

This should do wonders to build respect for the CiC within the ranks.

The only reason we have troops at the border is because of a national emergency. It seems the national emergency is an unpainted wall.

They should paint murals of trump and Ivanka.

A disgraceful misuse of taxpayer $$. Our military has more important work to do than making Trump’s wall beautiful.

Trump begs to differ. His model for the painting theme:

DHS said the painted wall makes it easier for border patrol agents to confront “camouflaging tactics” of migrants attempting to cross the border illegally.

Unless they are painting the wall with one of those hideous Trump as Jesus paintings, I’m not sure how a painted wall can help. Won’t the migrants just adopt camo the color of the wall?

Oh, that is going to be a lot of fun in the heat of the Summer. Actually, it will help acclimate the troops for our next unnecessary war in the Middle East. Personally, I would take painting the wall, it will be tedious and boring but unlikely to get you killed.

I see your problem with understanding their reason, you are being logical, which is as out of fashion as irony.

Only the best painters

Here’s an economic angle that would make sense, have college students to paint the wall and reduce their student loan amounts at the same time. Also they’ll gain useful business skills.

1944: troops paint noses of aircraft used against real enemy.

2019: troops paint walls used against fake enemy.

Also don’t have the funds for training of our military personnel while also diverting needed base infrastructure. But we have plenty for this shit and more tanks that not desired, more planes that are then discount sold to other nations, etc.

“Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.” ― Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
