Gathering momentos for the future Trump Presidential Library?

The only thing I brought back from my visit to Auschwitz were some awful memories.

Wow, this is sick on multiple levels. What was his motivation? Did he want a piece of the 3rd Reich to put on his wall to show off to his neo-Nazi friends or is he just stupid?

Reading the news about the behavior of Americans and of the President of the United States has become such a humiliating experience

If I ever had the chance to Auschwitz, I wouldn’t touch anything. I genuinely believe that the horrific memories of the place will reside there forever. The idea of trying to steal any part of the place goes beyond blasphemy.

what kind of depraved monster would want a keepsake from Auschwitz… no doubt to show his neo-Nazi bros back home. I hope he’s sentenced to the full ten years. and ordered to read every holocaust remembrance ever published.

I totally agree. I couldn’t imagine touching anything when I visited the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum - you let the memorial touch you

I have been there and to other camps. I lost so much family in the camps that I had to go. I first went when I was stationed in Germany while in the Army. It is a place that never leaves your head or heart once you have walked there and breathed the air. The Holocaust Museum in DC is worth a visit if you are ever visiting. My mother calls it the “Disney version” of the Shoah, but I find it a very compelling place because it is “manageable.” I agree about not touching, but I did touch some things in the camps like the walls and gates because I wanted to touch what those souls had touched.

I’m very certain that people do.

These are the End Times.

Most of the victims were Jews but many Poles, Roma, Soviet POWs and others were also killed there.

People never really think of the heavy price Russia paid. About 4.5 million Russian civilians died of famine and starvation. More than 7.5 million military deaths. Between 27- and 40 million Russian deaths in all. And yes, many of those Russians who died were also Jewish.

What the fuck is it with people and “souvenirs”?

Good god.

Would have been less if they hadn’t slaughtered the Polish military at Katyn.

The Soviet leadership were just as evil as Hitler.

Same with my visit to Dachau over 40 years ago. What I remember most is how my body (chest, arms, legs, neck, fingers, etc.) could feel the sadness, the horror, and the heaviness. It permeated my whole being.

Well we can be grateful for small blessings.

Is it worse if he understood what he was doing, and did it deliberately, or if he had no clue and was just taking a souvenir? Because people having no clue about genocide…

Don’t forget we read about it because it is so stupid. I’d wager 90% of the American people are fairly decent, may do stupid things sometimes that they get branded for for life, and regret because they know it was stupid and not because they got branded.

10% are mean and stupid and don’t care about social norms and legacy.

And 100% of our current president is mean, stupid, doesn’t care about social norms and legacy, and is criminally insane.

And visiting other people’s topic: I can’t even walk past the Holocaust Museum. I can’t imagine going to Dachau, Auschwitz, Cambodia’s Killing Fields Museum, the 9/11 Museum, or anywhere that brings these memories out. I’ve got them myself from reading the histories, I understand the monstrous deeds, and I know I’d have vivid nightmares the rest of my life.
