Discussion: US Hiring Roars Back As Unemployment Rate Falls To 7-Year Low

Discussion for article #242578

See? This is entirely because that RINO Boehner resigned as Speaker. Job producers responded with confidence once they new the Tea Party would run the government and reverse that job-killing Obamacare socialism.

Oh…The Humanity! We must return to Dubya’s MurriKKKa’…Even though we were losing 800K+ jobs per month at the end, that trickle down manna from heaven was just around the corner!

GOP solution: We gave the rich more $$$$$ and it didn’t work … and so we need to give the rich even more $$$$$…

President Obama should walk out on stage, hold up this article, drop the mic and strut off.

Fun fact: the official unemployment rate has been below 5% for only 6 of the last 45 years. Between July 1970 and June 1997 it never went below 5% (it peaked at 10.8% under Reagan in 1982).

What’s more, the unemployment rate virtually always goes down when a Democrat is President and up when a Republican is President. That means that, if Hillary is elected, by the end of her first term the unemployment rate will likely be the lowest it’s been since the 60’s

Awesome news. The America-hating conservatives who love to badmouth the economy will be trotting out their usual talking points about those who have “given up looking” for full-time work. But I have two observations for them:

  1. The Bush recession was the biggest economic collapse since 1929 and a good number of workers, many late in their careers with high incomes, were basically wiped out by it professionally. Because of the giant hole in their resumes from 2007 to 2010+, they are basically not hireable in their former roles and they are not inclined to / or are considered overqualified to / or are too old to work at something else and for less.
  2. Because of the ACA, many Americans, especially older ones, have more choices about what they do (something you’d think conservatives would applaud). They don’t have to schlepp into a low paying job they hate just to make sure they don’t go bankrupt for getting sick.

This is good news for George Bush. His policies are finally working.

You know, whenever I do this, they immediately complain that these jobs “aren’t as good” (as the ones Bush destroyed)…they always like to leave that last part off.

However, it’s somewhat true. We still need the labor market to get tighter so we get some wage pressure…that’s when things will really turn around for the broader public. God forbid a tea-whacker or even Yeb! gets in and gets to take credit for this. Much of Reagan’s “economic miracle” was due very largely to Paul Volcker, whom Jimmy Carter appointed.

  1. this is just a transparent ploy to distract from BEN GOZZY
  2. THE PRESIDENT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIRING!
  3. Oh yeah? What about the relatively low wages that I cared nothing about for decades prior to Obama becoming president, and for which my solution is usually WORK LONGER HOURS?

Naw…it’s not new. Firebaggers have been saying that since day two of his Presidency.
