Discussion: US Confiscates Ancient Iraqi Artifacts Illegally Imported By Hobby Lobby

Must have gotten the wrong Lot.

Hobby Lobby said it “was new to the world of acquiring these items, and did not fully appreciate the complexities of the acquisitions process.”

Isn’t this the same excuse the new administration gives for not following the law? That they are newbies and inexperienced in government constraints and ethics requirements.

A great sufficiency of tawdry bric-a-brac and incipient tchotchkes.

I can see how a huge corporation with only a small army of attorneys might not understand the complexities of import regulations and mistakenly label ancient aritifacts as tile samples. Common rookie mistake, I’m sure. Also, I can see where they might accidentally have ancient artifacts shipped to Hobby Lobby retail stores since some of them probably have an Ancient Middle Eastern Artifacts department near the scrapbook making supplies. Totally understandable. No fraud here.

I know it sounds bad… But Hobby Lobby’s heart was in the right place, ya know?

They were searching diligently in those thousands-of-years-old cuneiform clay tablets…

To find a more modern & decent idea than their CURRENT PLAN for providing contraception coverage in their employee healthcare package!

I knew this would happen once we started letting their kind get married!

Please, God, make sure that money ends up at Planned Parenthood.

Wasn’t it about just this sort of American looting of Iraq’s historical treasures by Americans that Rumsfeld made his famous statement that “Stuff happens?” Hobby Lobby’s owners sure are stuff alright. If stuff could happen to them they’d be in jail by now. These filthy rich criminals seem to be immune to punishment. Just like Trump.

Too bad having a “passion” for the Bible doesn’t mean actually reading it.

Even just the Cliff note version…like the 10 commandments.

Nailed it.

Hobby Lobby is getting a huge break from K.K.K. Sessions’ Justice Dept. A very methodical & orchestrated federal criminal conspiracy here meets only with a slap on the wrist.

They’re paying a fine inconsequential for this business, & having to return the stolen items [that we know about]?

How many embezzlers or burglars in federal court walk away after returning the stolen loot?

But they are such good Christian friends of Donald Trump and the rest his gang. Don’t you know they are wonderful representatives of the hypocrite guild.

I’ve never before, not once in what’s now becoming a not-short life, wished I were a judge. But right now I’m thinking how cool it would be to have some of these Bible-thumping bigots come before me having committed a crime and waiting for me to sentence them. I would recommend they pray really, really sincerely for divine forgiveness, because as far as the state is concerned I’m giving you two-faced bastards a sentence you’ll take very seriously and then I’m going home to enjoy my dinner knowing I’ve done a good day’s work.

Green said that Hobby Lobby imported the artifacts as part of its “passion for the Bible.”

A passion, perhaps, but they obviously didn’t read this part

Romans 13 1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

God almighty. Is every conservative “activist” a thieving scumbag? What the fuck is WRONG with this country? ANYTHING is okay in the name of making a goddamn buck. Otherwise, you’re a loser.

Incredible isn’t it, how a legal team that can argue successfully before the Supreme Court is incapable of reading the US Code or CFR to determine the statutes involving cultural property. You’d almost think that they actually knew the regulations and set out to deliberately defy them. But then you’d realize that that would be dishonest and that no one with “a passion for the Bible” would knowingly be dishonest.* So it must just be a rookie mistake after all.
